Mia walked out of her bedroom and into the family room. She walked around the red chaise lounge chair, past the cardboard barn, and in front of the sofa. She trotted into the kitchen and stopped in front of the refrigerator to look for the monster she thinks lives under there. She looked under there for only a minute and then walked into the dining area. She walked around the table and stopped at the window by the front door.
Out the window, Mia saw a lizard scurry across the porch floor. She watched as it hopped up onto the screen and climbed up about two feet. The lizard stayed still for a minute and then climbed even higher. Mia watched it go up and up to about a foot from the top. I wonder why it goes up that high, Mia thought. She watched it as it just clung there and didn’t move. Oh well, I’m bored now, Mia thought.
She turned around and saw her pink mouse lying on the floor. Mia walked up and pounced on it. She plopped down on her side and rolled over. The mouse was right between her back feet and she kicked it out. With her front right paw she grabbed it with her claws and brought it up to her face. She rolled side to side on her back holding the mouse with her front paws.
“Whatcha doing?” Dukee walked up near her.
“Playing with my mouse,” Mia said while she laid on her back holding her mouse.
“Did you see the opossum last night?” Dukee asked.
“Yeah I did. I was sitting on the window sill when it walked through the yard,” Mia rolled over to look at Dukee.
“It sure was a big one. I thought it was a raccoon at first,” Dukee sat down.
Mia sat up and looked at Dukee, “that’s right, I knew that it reminded me of something else.”
“Yeah, it crept along the fence line and was almost in line with my window, but then it turned around and made it’s way to that hole in the fence,” Dukee said.
“Yeah, I noticed that it went out of my view for a few minutes,” Mia licked the top of her paw.
“Where I used to live, I would see one once in a while but not as often as here,” Dukee watched Mia lick her paw.
“Didn’t you say that you saw turkey’s a lot?” Mia asked.
“Yes, a bunch of them would just show up. I think that they came out of the woods,” Dukee said.
“I saw turkey’s the other day,” Mia said.
“Oh yeah, where?” Dukee asked.
“Right out here in the front yard. Mom and Auntie said that’s what they were,” Mia walked around the recliner sofa.
“Oh really, I missed it? Where was I?” Dukee jumped up onto the side table.
“I think you were taking a nap in your room,” Mia jumped up onto the kitty tower.
“Oh yeah, I need my naps,” Dukee watched as Mia crawled in the tunnel part of the kitty tower.
“There was I think Auntie said seven turkey’s all together. There was one big one and the rest were smaller,” Mia looked out the window.
“Oh, so like a mom and her kids,” Dukee said.
“Yes, something like that,” Mia said.
Mia and Dukee looked out into the front yard and across the street. There wasn’t too much going on out there. They did see a crow walking down the street and a few other birds flying around though.
“Oh, and I talked with Carrie earlier for a few minutes,” Mia said.
“Where was she at?” Dukee asked.
“She landed on the ledge outside my bedroom window. Her husband Harold was sitting on the fence,” Mia looked at Dukee.
“Oh, how nice. Is she doing well?” Dukee looked at Mia.
“Yep they are, but her and Harold were lucky that they didn’t get eaten by a dog,” Mia said.
“Why what happened?” Dukee asked.
“Carrie said that they were flying over a yard a few streets over when a dog started jumping up and down trying to get them,” Mia said.
“Wow, it’s a good thing that they can fly higher then,” Dukee said.
“Yeah, I know.”
Dukee sat there and pictured in his mind a big dog jumping up and down while Carrie and Harold flew over. Mia laid there in the tunnel and gazed out the window, just waiting for someone or something to come along.

Our Marie goes up one tower, across the top of the wall unit and down the other tower. Today while I was in the kitchen Paula called for me to come to the living room. She said look up to the wall unit. There wad SOPHIE!!! She was giving herself a bath. She has never gone up the towers before that we know of. Guess she must be feeling more at ease the longer we have her. She always stayed hidden until last year when we had to board them when we lost dad. Since then she has been coming out to spend time with us. This year she has started spending a lot of time sleeping in my lap. We are getting there.
