It was around 3 am and Dukee woke up because Auntie got up and went into the kitchen. Dukee hopped down off the bed, stretched his front paws out, and arched his back. I wonder what Auntie is doing, he thought. He walked out into the family room and saw Auntie walking toward him with a glass full of something. She petted him on the head and walked back into their bedroom. Dukee turned around and followed her.
Dukee watched as she sat back down on the bed and drank whatever she had in the glass. Maybe she’s not feeling well again, he thought. Dukee walked over to his food dish and ate a few kernels. When he was done eating, he saw that Auntie was going to rest and watch TV. So, he walked out into the family room and looked around. He heard a soft noise coming from the dining area, so he walked into the kitchen. As he walked through the kitchen toward the dining area he heard the noise again.
Mia was on the bench softly chattering at something outside of the window. Dukee slowly crept toward her as she turned her head and looked at him.
Dukee stopped and asked, “what do you see out there?”
“It’s a really big frog,” Mia said.
“Can I see?” Dukee asked.
“Sure,” Mia moved over about a foot.
Dukee jumped up onto the bench and looked. Sure enough, the green and white frog was twice the size of a ping pong ball.
“Wow, that is a big one,” Dukee watched it.
“Yeah, it’s been stuck to the window for a while now,” Mia flicked her tail. “Usually I see one on the window in my room, but not tonight.”
“The frogs and lizards don’t come to my bedroom window as often as they do out here,” Dukee stood up by the window to reach for the frog.
The frog didn’t even twitch when it saw Dukee’s paw coming toward it.
“It knows that we can’t get it so it only moves when it wants to,” Mia said.
Dukee slowly sat back down, “where I used to live, we had those kinds of frogs but we also had a lot of toads. And every once in a while a toad would get inside the screen porch somehow.”
“Really? What did you do with it?” Mia looked at the frog.
We played with it until Auntie saw it and put it back outside. She said that some of them can be poisonous,” Dukee looked at Mia.
“What does poisonous mean?” Mia looked at Dukee.
“Well, it’s when something about it can make you sick or even die,” Dukee licked the top of his paw.
“Oh, well that’s not good,” Mia said.
“No, it’s not. That’s why Auntie and your mom make sure that no critters like that get into the house. Because you don’t really know which ones will make you sick,” Dukee looked up at the frog.
“That explains why Mom would take away a bug that I might be playing with,” Mia watched as a moth fluttered near the window.
“Yep, because you never really know,” Dukee said.
Mia got thirsty so she turned and hopped down to the floor. She walked into the front living room and hopped up onto the table where her food and water dishes are. Dukee sat there on the bench and watched how the moth fluttered around the frog. Just then, the frog's tongue came out quickly and snatched the moth up. Dukee cringed as he saw the frog eat the moth.
“You missed it. The frog just ate that moth,” Dukee said.
“Eww gross. I’m glad I did miss that,” Mia finished drinking some water.
Dukee giggled at Mia’s response and then hopped down to the floor. Mia hopped down from the table and walked past the leather sofa. The two of them met up with each other and walked down the hall together.
“I’m still tired, I’ll see ya later,” Dukee turned to go to his bedroom.
“Okay, see you later,” Mia walked to her bedroom.
Dukee jumped up onto the bed and laid down next to Auntie. Mia walked into her bedroom and glanced up at the window before she laid down on the rug beside the bed. Nothing on my window, she thought as she curled up next to Mom’s slipper and put her head down.

Two Cats And A House
One night our dog grabbed a toad and spit it right back out. He immediately started vomiting and foaming at his mouth. Of course at 10 pm the vets are closed. We had to stay with him outside until he quit vomiting. He walked around toads after that. We had another one grab a big king snake. It had a bird or turtle egg in it's mouth. When I grabbed the dog the snake spit out the egg and took off. We had a cat who used to bring non-poisonous snakes into the house and put them in her food bowl. One of our other cats would bring birds and lizards in and put them in the food bowl. The cats we have now are not allowed outside but they still find lizards that get into the house and bugs too. I have to chase them all down to rescue their prizes to put back outside. The csts are not happy campers when I do that.
