Mia was lying in the kitty tower tunnel when Dukee jumped up onto the side table. He walked to the end and sat down.
Your mom and Auntie sure have been busy decorating today, haven’t they?” Dukee looked at Mia.
“Yes, I know. It looks pretty in here with all these sparkly things everywhere,” Mia looked at the Christmas tree on the table near her food.
“Yeah, I like laying under the tree in the family room. It’s comfortable on that white stuff that’s under there,” Dukee looked out the front window.
While the two of them looked out the window, a large group of Ibis walked into the yard looking for bugs. As the Ibis pecked at the ground searching for bugs, some of them came close to the house. Mia slowly got down from the tunnel and scooted around to the cube part and watched. Dukee just observed from the table how the birds walked and pecked at the same time. Mia chattered a little at the birds as they got closer to the flower bed.
“I bet I could catch one of them if I was outside,” Mia wiggled her back end.
Dukee looked at Mia and snickered, “they would fly off before you even got started.”
“Maybe, but It would be fun to try,” Mia crept closer to the window.
It’s an absolutely beautiful day with the sun shining bright but the temperatures cooler. The Ibis even enjoys walking from yard to yard pecking at the ground. Dukee watched as two squirrels chased each other across the driveway and stopped at the base of the tree. One squirrel looked up at the Christmas banner that hugged the tree now. The other squirrel ran back in the direction it came from.
“Look at that squirrel. It’s not sure of that thing your mom and Auntie put on the tree,” Dukee said.
Mia looked and watched to see what the squirrel was going to do, “oh, there it goes up past the ribbon.”
They watched the squirrel scurry to the top branches of the tree and hop on the wires that run to the pole in the neighbor’s yard. The Ibis continued on their journey down the street so there was nothing left to watch. Oh, but wait, what did Dukee see?
“Hey, is that Larry?” Dukee leaned forward trying to see.
“No… It looks like him but I don’t think it is,” Mia sat down on the window sill.
“Oh, yeah, if it was, he would have come up to the window already to say hello,” Dukee scratched his ear.
“Yes, he would have. I hope that all our friends are doing well. I haven’t seen anyone since that last storm we had,” Mia licked the bottom of her front paw.
“They’re probably busy. We’ll see them soon, I’m sure,” Dukee glanced behind him.
Dukee then stood up, turned around, and walked to the other end of the table, “I’m hungry. I’m going to get something to eat.”
He hopped off the table and walked down the hallway to his room. Mia stepped onto the blanket on her litter box cabinet and hopped down to the floor. I’m going to see what Mom is doing, she thought. She trotted down the hallway and into her bedroom. She glanced up at the bed as she walked around and saw her mom laying down. Mom must have worn herself out today, Mia thought. Being courteous this time, Mia left her alone and decided to take a nap herself. She lay down on her favorite spot on the rug and closed her eyes.
