Mia and Dukee thought for a few minutes while they watched the house across the street.
“I know, she reports to the man that lives there too… He’s gone all day so he needs to know when he gets home,” Mia said.
“True, but maybe there’s even someone else like… Someone really important,” Dukee lifted his front foot and licked it.
“Okay, now how about the new guy next door, what do you think he does?” Mia looked at Dukee.
“Well, maybe he grows things in his house,” Dukee said.
“What do you mean? What kind of mystery is that?” Mia licked her front leg.
“I mean that he always rides on that thing that makes the grass shorter,”
“Yeah?”
“Well, what if it’s because he doesn’t want to bring attention to what he is growing in his house?” Dukee looked at Mia.
“No, that doesn’t sound right,” Mia said.
“I know… The man next door rides that thing so much because he’s a spy too,” Mia whispered. “When he’s riding on that it lets him look around to see what everyone else is up to.”
“That’s a good point… But why does this neighborhood need so many spies?” Dukee asked.
“Maybe they’re trying to find someone they think lives here,” Mia stretched her neck to look next door.
“Yeah, maybe,” Dukee whispered.
The two of them sat on the bench thinking, when Mia turned, “I’m hungry,” she said and hopped down.
She walked past the front door, stepped up onto the bottom shelf of the side table, and made her way to the other table with her food on it. While she ate, Dukee hopped down off the bench, walked past the door, and jumped up onto the side table. He sat at the one end and looked out the window. When Mia finished eating, she jumped up on the kitty tower and lay inside the tunnel.
“We never really know everyone that lives by us,” Dukee looked at Mia.
It is very important to let your children know that not all people are good people. Tell them not to talk to people to who you haven’t introduced them too. Children can be too trustworthy sometimes.
