The next morning, detective Rowan Williams got up and did his usual morning routine. While he was combing his hair, he remembered that he still needs to talk to Mr. Cunningham if he was back in town. It seems odd that he left town on the same night of Ms. Bono’s murder, he thought. Williams grabbed his wallet and car keys and headed out the front door. As he walked to his car, he glanced around. The only person he saw was his neighbor down a couple of houses picking up his newspaper.
Williams climbed into his car and drove into town and to his favorite diner. It was just about 7:30 am now as he pulled into the parking lot and parked his car. Williams walked into the diner and sat down at the counter.
“Good morning detective. Would you like your usual?” Gloria walked up to the counter.
“Good morning Gloria. Yes, two eggs over easy please.”
Gloria put his order in and then walked over with a cup and the coffee pot, “how’s the case going?”
“Well, I have my suspicions but no big leads yet,” Williams poured a creamer cup into his coffee.
Detective Williams changed the topic and asked Gloria how she has been. She chatted away about her oldest son who just got home from the military until another customer walked in. After Gloria helped the other customer, she served Williams his breakfast and topped off his coffee. The morning crowd for the diner was starting to flow in now, so Gloria wasn’t able to visit with him any longer. It’s good though because even as friendly as he likes to be, Williams enjoys his alone time.
Just before the detective finished his coffee, officer Dunken called his cell phone.
“Good morning Joe, I’m just finishing up my breakfast,” Williams said.
“Good morning Rowan. I just wanted to let you know that we got ahold of George, the gardener. He’s going to come down to the station around ten this morning and talk to us.”
“Oh, okay. Have you tried to contact Pete Cunningham again to find out if he’s back in town?” Williams asked.
