Detective Williams talked with Jonathan for about ten minutes. He found out that Jonathan broke off the relationship with Beverly when she told him that she wasn’t ready for anything serious. Williams thanked Jonathan and left the site believing that he had nothing to do with Beverly’s death. The other man in Beverly’s life was a local restaurant owner named Pete Cunningham. Detective Williams drove down to his restaurant to talk to him but he wasn’t there. The manager told detective Williams that Mr. Cunningham had to go out of town for a couple of days and won’t be back until Friday afternoon sometime.
Williams asked the manager when Mr. Cunningham left town. He told him that late last night Mr. Cunningham called him and told him he had to go out of town. Williams thought that seemed suspicious and then asked the manager if he knew the victim. The manager told detective Williams that he met Ms. Bono a few times when she was dating Mr. Cunningham. But he hasn’t seen her in a few months so he assumed that the two of them broke it off. Williams thanked the manager for his time and left the restaurant.
Later that evening, officer Dunken called detective Williams. He told him that the prints that they recovered from Ms. Bono’s body weren’t listed in the system. Williams asked about the knee prints and the other DNA found, but Dunken told him that those also didn’t match anyone on file. Williams asked officer Dunken to get prints from Pete Cunningham when he gets back to town on Friday afternoon. He told Dunken that Cunningham left town late the night of Beverly’s murder. He’s not sure of anything yet, but it just seems too coincidental to him.
