Detective Williams talked with Mike Cooper again before he left for the police station. He asked Cooper a few more questions about his relationship with the deceased. Mike Cooper told the detective that he and his girlfriend have been dating on and off for about three years. They started dating when he worked for Landscapers-R-Us and did some work for her.
“She owned a couple of properties in the area and hired us to redo them,” Mike explained.
“Was Gary Page working here too?” Williams asked him.
“Yes, that’s when I first met Gary.”
“Do you know if Gary had done any work for her before that time?”
“Yes, he did. She told me when we started dating, that he even asked her out,” Cooper said.
“Okay, thank you Mike. Of course you know that you will be brought down to the station and asked more questions in order to clear you?” Williams asked.
“Yes, I know the drill detective.”
Williams left the crime scene and headed down to the station. He really wanted to confront Gary Page but knew that he better wait to see if a warrant would be issued. By the time detective Williams got to the police station, Chief Chambers was back and even had a warrant. On his way back from the lab, the chief stopped by the judges office and asked him. The chief was happy that it didn’t take much to convince the judge about the warrant for Gary Page’s property.
“So, when officer Dunken gets finished at the crime scene, you and him go over to Page’s house and find that knife,” the chief said.
“We will… A guy like that takes too much pride in what he does to just throw it away,” Williams said.
After about an hour, officer Dunken arrived at the police station. Detective Williams was sitting at his desk when he saw Dunken walk in. All Williams did was hold up the warrant and Dunken knew where they were going.
