Detective Williams headed down to the police station and called Pete’s brother from there. Mr. Cunningham’s story checked out and seemed on the up and up to Williams. He didn’t think that Pete had any involvement with Beverly’s murder anyway but had to make sure.
When ten o’clock rolled around, George (the gardener) walked in about five minutes late. He sat down with detective Williams and officer Dunken in the interrogation room. George said that he had been doing gardening for Ms. Bono off and on for three years with no problems. He did say that when she hired Landscapers-R-Us, the two men showed a lot of interest in what Ms. Bono had to offer.
“What do you mean what she had to offer?” Williams asked.
“Yeah, and how do you know?” Dunken looked at George.
“Well, she had money for one, and she was an attractive lady. And I know because she called me about them. Ms. Bono might have been my boss, but she confided in me about some things. We had a friendship,” George explained.
