Dillon, Jaz and Mike arrived at the abandoned church around seven on Halloween night. They were told that the church was abandoned by the priest because Satanism had been practiced there. Jaz wasn’t sure about going but Mike and Dillon wanted to check it out before all three of them went to the party.
“I don’t know about this guys,” Jaz stood outside of the car and looked up at the church steeple.
“Come on Jaz, we’ll only look around for a few minutes,” Dillon reached out his hand.
Mike had already walked up the steps and was at the church doors. He glanced back at Dillon and Jaz before he turned the doorknob. The large old door creaked as he pushed it open. Before Mike walked inside, a bat darted out at him.
“Wo, did you see that? I think it was a bat,” Mike laughed.
Jaz reluctantly walked up the church steps with Dillon and followed both guys inside. Mike pulled a flashlight out of his back pocket and shined it all around. There was dirt and leaves on the floor and dust and spider webs on what was left of the pews. When Mike shined the light where a cross would be hanging, they saw what looked like the skull of a goat on a stick.
“Okay, now that’s just spooky. It’s time to go guys,” Jaz turned around and walked outside.
Just like that, the door slammed shut, Jaz jumped, and Dillon and Mike ran over to it. Dillon tried the doorknob but it seemed locked. Mike pounded on the door and yelled for Jaz to help them.
“It won’t open,” Jaz yelled.
“Okay, there’s got to be another way out of here,” Dillon tried to calm Mike down.
“Jaz, we’re going to look around for another way out,” Dillon yelled through the door.
“Okay… I’ll just be out here in the dark,” Jaz said while she glanced around the front of the church.
Dillon and Mike looked for a door that the priest would usually enter through.
“There has to be another way to get in and out of here. I know that’s how it was at the church I used to go to,” Dillon said.
As they looked behind the alter, they backed up when they saw the bones of something small on the floor. Mike walked ahead of Dillon and went into a narrow hall. Before they found the other door though, they heard a deep growl behind them.
“What was that?” Mike turned and shined the light around.
“I don’t know, but keep going” Dillon said.
The two of them walked a little further in the musty smelling hallway.
“Hey, we found it,” Mike grabbed and turned the doorknob.
As the door squeaked open, they saw a narrow stairway that went down.
“It goes down. I don’t know if I want to go down into some dark basement,” Mike whined.
“That might be our way out of here,” Dillon looked at him.
“How do we know that if there is a door, that it will be unlocked?”
“Come on Mike,” Dillon grabbed the flashlight from Mikes hand.
“Hey.”
“The only way to find out is to go down and look,” Dillon squeezed past Mike and slowly and carefully took the first step.
The old wood stairs creaked as he walked down them. Dillon couldn’t see anything at the bottom yet.
Dillon glanced back at Mike, “are you coming?”
Mike was hesitant but took the first step. He put his hands on the gritty feeling walls to guide his way down and behind Dillon. They went down about twenty steps before Dillon saw the cement floor.
“We’re almost there,” Dillon said.
They walked down another five to six steps and reached the floor. Dillon shined the light around and at first he only saw three stacks of old chairs. The walls looked like old stone that was ready to crumble but the church had been there for centuries. Dillon also saw another room and peeked inside.
“Hey Mike, come here and look at this,” Dillon shined the flashlight so Mike could see.
“What is it, the way out?”
Mike walked over to Dillon and peeked over his shoulder to see what he was looking at. In that room and on the floor was a large pentagram.
“Okay, that does it, let’s get out of here,” Mike frantically looked around.
Suddenly, they heard what sounded like Jaz screaming.
“That sounded like it came from the back of the church,” Dillon shined the light in that direction.
Dillon carefully hurried past the stacks of chairs and saw an old wood burning stove. He also saw some folding tables leaning along a wall that led to another hall. Mike followed Dillon as fast as he could in the dark but stumbled and fell.
“Dillon, wait,”
“I’ll come back for you Mike,” Dillon entered the dark hallway.
Dillon shined the light down the hall but couldn’t see anything but wall and floor.
“No,” Dillon tapped the side of the flashlight.
The flashlight shut off and he couldn’t get it to turn back on. So, now Dillon was in complete darkness and feeling his way down the hall. Everything got eerily quiet. Not even the sound of crickets could be heard. He didn’t hear Jaz or Mike anymore either.
“Mike, are you okay?” Dillon called out.
Not a peep from anyone and Dillon couldn’t even feel the walls of the hallway anymore. He didn’t smell anything either. It was like he entered into a dark limbo.
“Hello? Is anyone there?” Dillon called out.
The next day, Dillon and Jaz’s friend Nancy went down to the police station. She knew that it was unlike her friends to not show up at one of her parties. She told the police that she tried to contact them all night but had no luck. Nancy also told him that their car wasn’t at home this morning when she went to check on them. The deputy told her that they couldn’t do anything about it right now because they are adults and they haven’t been missing long enough. He also told her that if they don’t contact her by tomorrow then maybe they can help. Nancy was furious and left the station.
Later that day, the police chief received a call that another abandoned car was found at the old church.
“What is it with that church? Every month we find an abandoned car there,” the police Chief said.
The End
Every month, oh my gosh !!
