While Virginia finished getting ready, Harold went back downstairs. Dressed in a black pinstriped suit and wearing black wingtip shoes, Harold made his way back into the kitchen. Just as he wanted, Buzz placed the roasted pig on the platter and dressed it with the apple and parsley.
“Ooh, that smells terrific,” Harold sniffed the air.
Just as Harold put a lid over the roasted pig, the doorbell rang. Harold rushed out of the kitchen and headed toward the front door.
“Our guests are here sweetheart,” Harold yelled up the stairs.
“Let me out of here,” Sandra pounded on the bedroom door.
Harold went to the front door and opened it. There he saw two of his friends, John and Eileen.
“Welcome, it’s good to see you both again. Please come inside,” Harold held the wood door open, “Virginia should be down any minute now.”
John and Eileen were always grateful for the invite to one of Virginia and Harold’s parties, even though they don’t associate with them anywhere else.
“Hello my dear friends,” Virginia called out as she gracefully walked down the steps.
Virginia had on a long slimming black spaghetti strap dress with a sheer red scarf over her shoulders.
“Virginia, you look stunning,” John smiled.
“Thank you my dear… Eileen, you’re looking thinner, have you lost weight?” Virginia took Eileen’s arm and walked her toward the parlor.
“Help me,” Sandra pounded on the door.
“Is that our prize?” John asked.
Harold smiled at John, “yes it is. We actually have two prizes this time.”
“Two? How did you manage that?
“Well, we’re just lucky I guess. Aren’t we sweetheart,” Harold laughed.
“Yes, they practically landed in our laps,” Virginia smiled at Eileen.
In the parlor, John and Eileen sat down on the sofa. Harold popped the top off one of the champagne bottles and poured them each a glass. As Virginia shared her most recent night out with Eileen, the doorbell rang again.
“That must be Ron and Andrea,” Harold put down the champagne bottle and went to answer the door.
The evening had started off well so far and the three couples toasted and drank a few drinks. They shared what they all have been doing since the last get together until the time hit eight. From the basement they all heard a male scream. Andrea and Eileen looked at Virginia with wonder.
“Oh, Duncan must be up now and having his hors d’oeuvre,” Virginia laughed.
“How many prizes did you get this time?” John asked.
“Would you believe, four came right to our house,” Harold snickered.
“Four? Ron looked at Harold.
“Yes, but Duncan of course gets two and you all are welcome to the other two,” Virginia said.
“Well, one each is plenty for us,” Andrea smiled.
As they laughed and finished their first bottle of champagne, Duncan walked into the parlor.
He was tall, with black hair, clean shaven, and wearing an all black suit. Duncan most of the time went out for the night to look for his dinner but tonight he didn’t have to.
“Hello everyone, I didn’t realize that we were going to have company tonight,” Duncan smiled.
Virginia got up and walked over to Duncan. She whispered in his ear that his dinner was in the greenhouse. He looked at her and smiled with content.
“Well, it seems that we are eating in tonight. What a pleasurable change,” Duncan sat down in the wingback chair.
In the bedroom, Sandra paced around and tried to figure a way out. There were bars on the windows so she knew that she couldn’t get out that way. In the attic, Brandi still couldn’t get her other hand free. She yelled for help but was hardly heard. And in the basement, Lou was laying on the floor with his neck ripped open. In the greenhouse Charley was still strapped to the table and in and out of consciousness.
Back in the parlor, Virginia was feeling a little giddy and asked John to dance. Along with all the other antiques in the house, they also used an old record player. Virginia put on one of Duncan’s favorite waltz’s and then grabbed Johns hand. They all watched how Virginia and John moved so gracefully in the open area near the patio door. The party was starting to get good.
