The rest of Virginia’s and Harold’s guests left around four in the morning. The hunting party for the most part was a success. John and Eileen weren’t too upset after they enjoyed some of Virginia’s roasted pig. Harold and Virginia were pretty tired now and decided to head upstairs to bed. Even though they didn’t find Sandra, with Duncan roaming around, they weren’t too worried about it.
Harold laid in their bed and watched Virginia brush her beautiful long hair, “do you think that Duncan will catch the girl?
Virginia looked back at Harold, “he probably already did. Duncan has always looked out for us, you know that.”
“Yeah, you’re right,” Harold yawned and closed his eyes.
While Virginia and Harold went to sleep, Duncan was going to have a quick snack before he retired for the day. Into the greenhouse Duncan went and observed Charley still laying on the table. Charley was still alive but very weak from the loss of blood. Duncan decided to make it quick before daybreak hit, so he bit into Charley’s neck one last time.
Charley yelped but was too weak to fight. Duncan sucked out the last bit of life that Charley had in him and then wiped his mouth, “Virginia did good this time, it was a nice evening at home,” Duncan smiled.
Duncan left Charley’s body laying on the table and headed toward the house.
In the barn, Sandra had dozed off and on while she waited for daylight. As she woke up again, she suddenly noticed that it sounded very quiet outside. She no longer heard anyone’s voice. Sandra stood up from the pile of brick pavers and used her cellphone’s flashlight to light the way. Quietly and carefully, She made her way through the barn and found another door. This door opened toward the backyard. Sandra slowly opened the door and peeked out. It was still dark outside but according to her phone it was 5:20 am. It will be light out soon, she thought.
If I can sneak around the back of this barn and follow the wood line, it should take me to the highway, Sandra thought. As she stepped out of the barn and glanced at the house, it all looked dark and quiet. Sandra crept around to the back of the barn and entered into the dark woods. She didn’t want go in to deep though because she didn’t want to get lost. Sandra did have a pretty good sense of direction and figured that she would kind of follow along the Holt’s long driveway but by way of the woods. She hoped that it wouldn’t take too long to get to the highway because she was scared and tired.
Sandra tried to be quiet while she walked the woods but the dried leaves and twigs crunched and snapped under her feet. I really hope that there’s nothing out here, she thought after hearing that growling earlier. While she walked along, other than the sounds of her own footsteps, it was eerily quiet. There wasn’t even the sound of a single cricket chirping. But, just as she felt something on her arm, an owl high up in a tree hooted.
Sandra jumped and paused, “I’ve got to get out of here,” she said softly.
About thirty minutes had passed and the sky started to brighten. Sandra was happy to see that daylight was near. She was also able to see the edge of the woods. Sandra hurried and then climbed the slight incline to get up onto the highway. She felt relieved that it was morning and that she could finally find help. She heard the chirps of a few birds and felt a soft breeze upon her face. What a beautiful morning, she thought. Considering the night that she just had.
As Sandra walked down the road, she was focused on finding help. She knew that she had quite a hike ahead of her unless someone picked her up. The woods were about fifty to sixty feet off the highway now and what Sandra didn’t realize was, was that someone has been following her. She walked about a mile when she saw the front end of a Cadillac sticking out past the trees as it was parked on a side road. Sandra ran toward the car with hope that someone could give her a ride. When she approached the car, she saw that it was empty.
Sandra looked around, “hello is anyone out there?”
Sandra peered through the window of the car but didn’t see any keys. She looked around and called out again, “Is anyone out there? I really need some help.”
Sandra tried the car door and it was locked. She then sighed and started to walk back toward the highway. Before she could reached the highway though, something ran out from the woods and attacked her. The force of the beast knocked her to the ground. Sandra screamed as the flesh from the back of her leg was ripped open. While the one creature ate the flesh from her leg, a second one crept up and looked her in the eyes. Sandra didn’t know it but John and Eileen finally caught their prize.
The End
I hope that you enjoyed this serial, it was a little tougher to write this time. Please feel free to let me know in the comments how I did. I might take a short break and work on some other projects but I won’t be gone long.
Thank you to all my readers for subscribing to my work. Thank you to my niece for always encouraging me. And thank you to my sister for usually catching my errors and letting me know. I appreciate all of you very much.
People, don't ever enter someones home that you don't know. You may not see another day.
I was scared for Sandra even more while she was walking in the woods. Felt like I was there and could feel her fright.
