Jonathan and Joe enjoyed their T-bone steaks and buttered potatoes while watching the hockey game. Joe got up and carried his empty plate into the kitchen. He set the ceramic plate and utensils into the sink and took two beers out of the refrigerator.
“That was some good food Jon, thank you. Do you want another beer?” Joe held out one of the bottles when he walked back into the living room.
“Sure. Thank you,” Jonathan took the beer bottle from Joe.
Joe sat back down on the sofa and took a drink of his new beer. Jonathan finished his food and put his plate on the end table. The afternoon has been enjoyable for both of them so far. “What do you suppose they want?” Joe looked at Jonathan.
“I don’t know… I thought that they would call me to let me know,” Jonathan walked to the front door.
Joe stood up and watched as Jonathan slowly opened the front door. Investigator Jordan and another officer walked up onto the front porch. The other two officers stayed in the front yard with their hands near their guns.
“What’s going on Jordan?” Jonathan opened the screen door.
“Jonathan, I need you to come with me to the station,” Jordan said.
“Why? Tell me what’s going on.”
“Please, step out of the house and come with me. You’ll hear everything down at the station.”
The two officers in the front yard moved closer and still had their hands ready to withdraw their guns. The color in Jonathan’s face drained out as he walked out onto the front porch.
“What’s going on?” Joe walked to the door.
Joe stood there at the open front door and watched while Investigator Jordan cuffed Jonathan.
“Joe, can you lock up my house for me and grab my keys by the back door? I’ll call you later,” Jonathan looked at him.
“Yeah, sure. Okay…”
