Considering it was the first night spent in his new home, Jonathan slept pretty decently. He woke up to the cardinal’s chirping from the tree in the front yard. The sun had just begun to rise higher into the sky, and the temperature was around sixty degrees. He sat up, stretched his arms, and moved his feet to the floor. With a shiver, he grabbed his blanket from his lap and wrapped it around his back and shoulders.
“Wow, I can’t believe I slept that good,” he sat there for a minute.
The birds continued to sing as he stood up and stretched again. He tossed the blanket onto the sofa and slipped his loafer on. He walked to the kitchen to get a drink of water. The glass he used last night was on the counter so he ran the water for a minute and looked out the window. As he filled up his glass he saw the cardinals from the front yard tree fly to the tree in his side yard.
He also noticed a sparkle from something hanging in the tree where the cardinal was sitting.
“Hmmm, I wonder what that could be?” he moved his head to get a better angle.
Well, I guess I’ll have to check that out later when I buy a ladder, he thought. Jonathan drank down the whole glass of water and again set it on the counter. He went to the bathroom to freshen up, and then he knew he needed to call the electric company.
He trotted up the stairs and went into the bedroom at the end of the hall with all the boxes. He had a couple of boxes marked clothes so he dug in one of those. Jonathan pulled out an ACDC t-shirt, one of his white Hanes, and an older pair of jeans. He changed his clothes right there and left the dirty ones on the floor for now. With his dark-colored hair and a dark t-shirt, he would usually make him quite warm, but it’s still early in the season.
