Jonathan reclined back a little in his chair and took a swig of water. It was around nine o’clock and the busy day caught up to him. He yawned and watched the program on TV. Just then, he heard a loud noise come from the backyard. He pushed the footrest in and got up quickly. He walked into the kitchen and opened the back door. Before he walked out onto the porch, he grabbed a flashlight and peeked out through the screen.
When he stepped outside he looked around and didn’t see anything except the open barn door. What is with that door, he thought. Carefully he walked over to the barn and looked inside. This time all the heavy chain that was hanging up over the rafter was down on the ground.
“Well that’s strange,” Jonathan walked inside.
He looked up at the rafter and couldn’t understand why that would have fallen now after all this time. He walked over to the other door in the back of the barn and it was locked. There is only one way in and out of here, he thought. Jonathan left the chain lying there and walked out of the barn. He slid the door closed and remembered that he saw a large rock around the corner of the barn. He walked around the corner and picked it up.
