Jonathan lifted the footrest on his recliner and picked up one of the burgers from his plate. Mmm, tastes good, he thought. He enjoyed the burgers that he made while he watched the rest of the “Die Hard” movie. Something in the movie made him remember that he was going to see what was sparkling in the tree in his sideyard.
When he finished his dinner, he got up and took his plate to the kitchen. He put it in the sink and then walked out the back door. In the barn, he picked up the ladder and carried it over to the tree. He unfolded the ladder but then folded it in half. He didn’t need it completely extended. Jonathan positioned the ladder so that it was stable, and climbed up it. He looked around the tree branches and saw a broken gold chain with a charm on it. He reached up and pulled it down.
He climbed back down the ladder and examined the broken necklace. The charm that was on it was of a hummingbird. Hmm, this must-have belonged to a little girl or a lady, he thought. He put it in his pocket and took down the ladder. He carried the ladder back into the barn and set it down where he had it. Jonathan looked around in the barn, at the walls and then the ground. He noticed something glistening in the dirt by one of the support posts.
He moved his foot in the dirt and notice about an inch of chain laying there. He bent over and picked it up. It matched the broken chain that he has in his pocket. Hmm, strange, he thought. He put that piece in his pocket too and continued to look around. He looked up at one of the rafters and noticed some heavy-weight chains and hooks hanging there.
“I wonder what that was used for?” Jonathan said.
