It was around four pm so Jonathan got up and walked out the back door. He saw the crime guys still out in the woods. He opened up the grill and took out the ash cup and dumped it in the driveway. He put it back and then went into the house by the back door and picked up the bag of charcoal and fluid. He grabbed the lighter and went back outside. Jonathan poured some charcoal into the grill and set the bag down.
He sprayed some lighter fluid on the charcoal and lit it. He took the charcoal back inside and took out some chicken from the fridge. He decided to make some BBQ chicken this time. He took out a bottle of Sweet Baby Rays barbecue sauce from the pantry. He grabbed a plate and tongs and put the unopened chicken on the plate.
Jonathan carried the stuff out to the grill and set it on the small table of the grill. As he waited for the fire to die down and the coals to get hot, he looked around his yard. I sure hope that there aren’t any more bodies on my property, he thought. Just then, he saw three female cardinals land in the tree about ten feet away from him. Well, that’s odd, I’ve never seen three female cardinals together, he thought. The birds sat there on the branch for about a minute. Then, one by one they flew down in front of Jonathan, fluttered there for a few seconds, and then flew off.
“Hmm, that was interesting,” Jonathan looked in the direction they flew.
He walked back to the grill and unwrapped the chicken. He placed the chicken pieces on the rack and poured a little barbeque sauce on them. He lowered the lid and walked around his yard some more. He noticed the screen by his basement window was torn so he knelt by it and took the screen off. Jonathan looked up at other screens on the house and saw which ones he needed to fix.
