Jonathan picked up the remote and flipped through the channels. The way that investigator Jordan questioned Jonathan worried him. He searched for a movie or something that would take his mind off of the case. It’s Saturday, you would think that something decent would be on, he thought. He finally found the movie, “Assassins” with Antonio Banderas and Sylvester Stallone. This is a good old movie, he thought.
It was almost three o’clock and the movie wasn’t holding Jonathan’s interest. He was feeling a little antsy. I know, I’ll paint my bathroom, he thought. Jonathan got up and walked to the back door. The paint and supplies were out in the barn. He opened the door and saw Knight laying on one of the chairs in the backyard. No, maybe I’ll just play with the cat, he thought. Jonathan walked out onto the back porch and down the three steps. Knight stood up and arched his back to stretch.
“Hey buddy, how are you doing?” Jonathan walked over to the cat.
Jonathan picked up Knight, sat down in the chair, and put Knight on his lap. Jonathan petted the cat's head and scratched him around his neck.
“Did you belong to that little girl who I found? I bet that you miss her don’t you?” Jonathan looked into Knight’s eyes.
Knight purred loudly while he rubbed on Jonathan’s hand. The simple thing of being around an animal can ease anxiety and take one’s mind off of things for a while. Jonathan sat there and pet the cat while he enjoyed the warmth of the sunshine. The temperature was a high of 82 degrees, but the humidity was low. Jonathan glanced around the yard when he heard a small airplane. He looked up into the clear blue sky and saw a Cessna flying over. They must be headed to the local airport, he thought.
