Here is the link to the first and second chapter if you haven’t yet read them. chapter 1 & 2
Julie went through the admission process during the night and then her and Jason were moved to a shared room. The doctor was happy to see that Julie finally woke up, but there was no reasonable explanation as to why she was unconscious for so long. The doctor was also concerned about the pigment change of her skin in only fourteen hours. Some of the cases that came into the hospital yesterday were concerning to all the staff. Many sample tests were already run and they still had no definite answers.
As the morning progressed, more and more sick people came pounding on the hospital doors so they had to let them in. Whatever this was, the hospital staff did not want to take the responsibility for it spreading throughout the city. The chief of staff, Dr. William Brown, also got in touch with the other hospital in the area and found out that they too had many patients with the same symptoms. Vomiting bizarre slime, bloodshot eyes, cool to the tough, seizures and foaming at the mouth.
Dr. Brown and Dr. Lorn agreed that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) needed to be called. So, the CDC requested that more samples be taken and then sealed in a package for one of their own to pick up. Precautionary measures were necessary at this point in order to figure out what they were dealing with. Is this contagious or just a strange reaction from bad water? Many of the sick patients did admit to drinking the new line of bottled water. Nurse Nancy even admitted that she watered a healthy plant with the water and a day later the plant died.
Thankfully the hospital decided to stick with the bottled water company that they already had. Because if something is wrong with that new line of water, who knows how many people have already ingested it. This sickness could affect the whole state if it is from the water.
While Julie laid in the bed sleeping, Jason decided to get something to eat. He made his way to the nurses station and got directions to the cafeteria. On his was there, he passed several rooms marked quarantined. He even witnessed another lady convulsing on her bed. A nurse that was in the room with her quickly closed the door. All Jason thought was that this all seemed like something from a movie.
After Jason exited the elevator on the first floor, he saw the sign for the cafeteria. But before he even walked a few more steps, he saw two orderlies. Each orderly was pushing a gurney with what he assumed had a covered body on it. Jason just watched as they passed by him to go to a different elevator. It was one thing to see one dead body heading to the morgue but two at the same time? Jason thought.
Jason finally made his way down to the cafeteria and ordered a ham sandwich and a soda. He sat down at a table near a window and thought for a moment. The window had a view of a small flower garden. There were also a couple of benches that people could sit on and enjoy being outside if the weather was nice. That made Jason remember the last time he and Julie went on a hike at a reserve outside of the city. They had a lot of fun together that day and now he wishes for more of those days. But, only time will tell if Julie will be healthy enough to go hiking again.
Please join me again next week for chapter four of: The Fight To Live.
That's really frightening about our bottled water. However, it is a good story so keep going with it.
