It was one of those mornings where Dukee did not know if he wanted to be in the house or out on that back screened porch. First time he was outside for about fifteen minutes. Then he wanted to come in to see if there were any squirrels out in the front yard. Then about a half an hour later he wanted to go out on the back porch. Meanwhile Mia is in the front living room waiting for more birds to come to the feeder.
Dukee was let out onto the back porch again and jumped up on the stool to look for squirrels. A few minutes had passed and he hopped down from the stool and walked over to the sliding glass door. Mia just happen to be taking the scenic route to her bedroom and stopped near the sliding door.
“Mia,” Dukee called out.
Mia stopped, looked at Dukee and said, “what.”
“Tell them I want in,” Dukee said.
Mia couldn’t hear Dukee very well through the glass door so she got closer.
“What did you say?” Mia asked.
“I want to come in.” Dukee said again.
“But why? I thought you liked it out there,” Mia said.
“I do but I want to come in now,” Dukee said.
Mia just sat there and licked her front right paw.
“Mia,” Dukee said.
Mia waited a few seconds and then looked at Dukee again.
“Isn’t it nice out there?” Mia asked.
“Yes, why?” Dukee replied.
“Then you can stay out there. You’ve already been in and out a bunch of times today,” Mia said.
Dukee looked at her and then meowed as loud as he could. He was hoping that auntie R or his mom would hear him.
“That’s not going to help because they both left,” Mia said.
Dukee thought for a second, “no they didn’t. They wouldn’t leave me out here.”
Mia then heard one of them as they came into the family room. She stuck her tongue out at Dukee and then hurried toward her bedroom. Dukee shook his head and waited to be let in. He was happy to see his mom as she opened up the door. Dukee didn’t want to say anything to Mia, but this time he had to use his litter box.
Dukee made his way around the chaise and glanced toward Mia’s bedroom. She was no where in sight so he headed to his bedroom. His mom followed because she was working with something in their room. Dukee was not surprised that Mia was being a stinker. She can have such a sassitude at times.
When Dukee finished in his litter box, he headed toward the front living room. When he got there he glanced around but did not see Mia. He then jumped up onto the side table and walked to the end of it. When he looked out the window, he saw a squirrel. Dukee meowed at it as he hopped down onto the blanket to watch.
Mia heard Dukee meow and chatter so she had to see what it was. She hurried into the front living room and looked up at the bird feeder. No birds, it must be a squirrel, she thought. When she jumped up onto the coffee table she looked over at Dukee. He glanced in her direction and stuck his tongue out at her. Mia giggled and then Dukee snickered. It was back to critter watching for them both.
Please join Mia and Dukee next week for another story. You never know what these two will be up to. Until then, have a wonderful week.
