Dukee got up from the stool and arched his back, “oh boy that was a nice nap.”
He hopped down off the stool and reached his front paws out to stretch. Well, Auntie is on her computer so I will go see what everyone else is doing, Dukee thought. When he walked out into the family room, he saw Mia down the hallway lying near the cardboard chalet. Dukee took his time but walked down the hallway to Mia.
“What have you been doing?” Mia asked.
“I was taking a nap. The sun was shining so nicely on the stool in my room that it made me sleepy,” Dukee said.
“Oh, I’m thinking about taking a nap soon. Otherwise, I’ve been watching the squirrels. They are really active in the front yard today,” Mia said.
“Are they still there?” Dukee asked as he walked past Mia.
“They might be,” Mia got up and trotted over to the kitty tower.
Dukee glanced out the narrow window before he jumped up onto the side table. Mia watched Dukee as he walked to the end of the table and sat down. As Dukee looked out the front window, Mia climbed up into the tunnel part of the kitty tower. They both watched as a few different birds hopped around on the tree branches.
“We sure get a variety of birds in that tree don’t we?” Dukee said.
“Yeah I know. I must have seen about four different colors,” Mia said.
“I think the red ones are the prettiest though,” Dukee said.
“Yes, they are pretty but I like the little ones with the yellow on them,” Mia said as she watched the birds.
“Yes, those are nice birds. I bet they would be fun to chase,” Dukee said.
“Hey look, here comes Mom,” Mia said as her mom pulled into the driveway.
Mia backed out of the tunnel and jumped down off the tower. When she trotted over to the front door, Dukee turned around and walked across the table. They both watched while Mia’s mom got out of her car.
“I didn’t even know that she was gone,” Dukee said.
“Yeah she left a little while ago,” Mia said.
“Well, I was sleeping pretty sound,” Dukee looked down at Mia.
Mom made her way to the front screened porch and walked inside. Mia was happy to see that her mom wasn’t gone that long. When Mom unlocked the front door, Dukee stood up and waited for her to open the front door. Mia hopped up onto the bottom shelf of the side table just before Mom opened the door.
When Mom walked in, Dukee tried to sneak out past her but she managed to close the door before he could jump out to the front porch. Oh bummer, Dukee thought. Mia hopped down and trotted over to Mom as she put her purse down. Did she bring me anything, Mia thought as she looked up at Mom.
Dukee hopped down off the side table and trotted down the hall toward Auntie as she walked out into the family room. How about some lunch, Dukee thought as he looked up at Auntie. Auntie petted Dukee and then walked back into her bedroom. Dukee followed her into their bedroom while Mia was getting attention form her mom in the front living room.
