The Day With Dukee And Mia

Dukee was sitting on the side table looking out the window when Mia walked into the room. She ran under part of the kitty tower when she saw a bird land on the bird feeder. Mia watched the bird from below while Dukee looked around for a squirrel.

“I wish the weather would stay warmer,” Dukee said.

Mia watched the bird as it looked around but then asked Dukee, “I thought you liked the cool weather?”

Dukee looked down at Mia, “I don't mind it a little cool but the squirrels must like it warmer.

“Oh, are you saying that because the squirrels aren't here yet?” Mia asked.

“Yes,” Dukee said and looked back out the window.

“Well, I noticed that when mom puts stuff in that bird thing that they come around more,” Mia said.

“You have a good point but I like to watch them when they are right here in the garden or right outside the window,” Dukee said.

“I think they come up to window because they are trying to tell mom to put stuff in that thing,” Mia said and then giggled.

Dukee snickered and said, “you're probably right.”

Just then a squirrel scampered into the yard. Dukee watched it as it searched the grass for nuts. Then Dukee hopped down onto Mia’s litter box cabinet and laid as flat as he could near the window.

The squirrel carefully made its way to the flower bed and searched for food. It then climbed up the bird feeder pole and checked the feeder but no seed yet. The squirrel then hopped back down and just dug around in the flower bed.

Mia heard Dukee say something and then looked up at Dukee’s tail.

“Is a squirrel out there?” Mia asked.

“Yes, come watch,” he said.

“No, I was just wondering since your tail is thumping on the cabinet,” Mia said.

“Oh, okay,” Dukee said as he focused on what the squirrel was doing.

Mia just laid under part of the kitty tower and waited for more birds to come while Dukee watched the squirrel. It is interesting how Mia prefers to watch birds and lizards and Dukee prefers to watch the squirrels. He watches birds and chatters at them, but I think he is obsessed with squirrels.
