Mia laid in the tube part of the kitty tower and looked out the front window. She first watched a squirrel nosing around in the grass. Then a lizard caught her eye as it crept along on the outside screen of the front porch. I wonder if that’s Larry, she thought. Mia watched the lizard as it turned and faced the ground.
“I wonder how they can hang upside down like that for so long?” Mia said.
Just then, the lizard rushed towards the ground. Mia quickly moved forward to see what the lizard was going after. She didn’t see anything. The lizard then turned around and scurried back up the screen.
“Well, if he caught something, he was mighty quick at it because I didn’t see anything,” Mia resituated her body in the tube.
All of a sudden, two little bluebirds flew down and landed on the wire that leads to the house. Mia laid real still but softly chattered at them. The one bird cocked its head and looked at the window while the other one turned and faced away from the house. Mia watched the bluebird as it seemed like it was watching her too. She heard the little bird tweet but had no idea what it was saying. Mia again chattered at the bird, but it was so quiet this time that only her mouth moved.
One of the birds flew over to the wire closer to the street. The other bird that was watching Mia, turned around.
“Yeah, your friend flew over there,” Mia softly said.
About a minute later, both birds flew away. Mia then saw another squirrel. It ran from under her Mom’s car, across the grass, and up the tree. She watched it as it sat on top of the branch and itched its head with its back foot. He itches like I do, Mia thought. While Mia was watching the squirrel, a black and yellow butterfly flew into the yard. Mia noticed it when it flew and fluttered over the blooming Penta' flowers just outside of the window.
“Ooo, how pretty,” Mia said and watched it as it barely touched the flowers.
The butterfly gently landed on each plant and then flew up and over the house.
“What a critter-filled morning it has been,” Mia said as she backed out of the tube.
“This was even better than the big frog last night,” Mia said and hopped down to the floor.
The house was still pretty quiet with Grandpa already dosing off, and Dukee out in the back screened porch. So, Mia decided to go see what her Mom was doing in their bedroom. Her Mom is sometimes watching TV but other times she’s cleaning. Whatever it is that you have to do this week, Mia and Dukee want you to try and have fun with it. Until next time, have a great week everyone.
