Dukee heard Mia in her bedroom and waited for her to come out. He decided to hide behind the paper that was draped over the cardboard barn. But when he got distracted by a noise in grandpa's room, Mia came out of her room and crept over to the barn.
Dukee quickly looked toward Mia’s room but didn't see her yet. Just then Mia quietly peeked around the draped paper. Dukee then ran at Mia but quickly stopped.
“Ha ha I saw you,” Dukee said.
“Yeah but you didn’t see me sneak over here,” Mia said and then giggled.
“That's true,” Dukee said and then slowly turned to the left.
Mia knew exactly what Dukee was up to and was ready to chase him. When Dukee faced the hallway, he hastily ran toward the front of the house. Mia was right on his tail as they went down the hall but she suddenly stopped when Dukee jumped up onto the leather sofa.
Dukee snickered as he glanced back and said, “boy you sure are quick.”
Mia trotted around to the front of the sofa and giggled, “well, you’re pretty fast for an old guy.”
“Hey, I'm not old,” Dukee said as he watched Mia jump up onto the kitty tower.
Mia climbed into the tunnel part of it while Dukee jumped up onto the side table.
“You’re a lot older then me,” Mia said.
“Well that's true, you little furball,” Dukee said and then laughed.
Mia looked at Dukee and thought for a moment.
“Why do you think we like to run so much? Not all animals like to run, right?” Mia said.
Dukee looked at Mia and replied, “I guess maybe we are built to run. I don't think that all animals are made the way we are.”
“Oh, that's true. Like birds for instance have wings to fly with. I don't think I've ever seen a bird run,” Mia said.
“I've seen a bird run a little bit but not like we do,” Dukee said and then itched his right ear.
“When did you see a bird run?” Mia asked.
“Remember when all those white birds came into the yard?” Dukee said.
“Oh yeah. They get feisty with each other and chase each other,” Mia said and then looked out the window.
“Yep. And also where I used to live, I saw an even bigger bird run a short way,” Dukee explained.
“But nothing like us right?” Mia asked.
“No, nothing like us. I even ran up a tree,” Dukee said.
“Yeah, I think you told me about that. It was also where you used to live, right?” Mia said.
“Yep. My mom wasn't too happy about that though,” Dukee said.
“You were able to get down though right?” Mia asked.
“Yes, coming down is much slower than going up though. My mom grabbed me when I got down to the trunk of the tree. I think I scared her,” Dukee said.
“I can understand her being upset. She was probably worried that you would hurt yourself,” Mia said and then looked at the side of the window.
“Yeah probably. It was fun though,” Dukee said.
“I don't like to climb as much as I like to run. And if my feet weren't so slippery on the floor, I'd probably run even faster,”Mia said.
“Yes, you probably would.”
Mia and Dukee both looked out into the yard and scanned it for squirrels or other critters. They do enjoy a good run around the house. Just not always at the same time. Mia prefers a morning or early afternoon run where Dukee does it whenever the mood strikes him. Either way, they both get their exercise.
Until next week, Mia and Dukee hope that you all have a good one.
