“Whatcha doin?” Dukee said as he walked into the front living room and looked up at Mia.
Mia looked at Dukee with squinted eyes and said, “I’m sunning myself.”
“‘I’ve never seen you lay there before,” Dukee said.
“Oh, well I lay here sometimes,” Mia said and looked back out the window.
“Oh, okay,” Dukee looked out the window and then back at Mia.
Dukee then looked at the leather recliner that Auntie sits in a lot and jumped up into it. Mia quickly looked at Dukee and watched him as he laid down.
“What are you laying there for?” Mia asked.
“Well, I thought that I would stay out of your way but still visit with you,” Dukee looked at Mia and said.
“Oh, okay… Did you hear that wind blowing during the night?” Mia said.
“Yes I did. It made a whistle sound by our bedroom window,” Dukee said in between licks on his left paw.
“I looked out our bedroom window and saw the tops of the trees moving,” Mia said.
“Well, as long as the trees don’t fall over, it’s okay,” Dukee said.
“Yes, that’s true,” Mia closed her eyes while she faced the bright morning sun.
A previous night of wind and rain brought a beautiful sunny morning for all to enjoy. Mia eventually hopped down onto her blanket that laid on top of her litter box cabinet and took a bath. Dukee got up and made his way up onto the side table. He sat down, looked out the window and watched a chubby little bird as it landed in the grass.
“Look at that little bird,” Dukee said to Mia.
Mia stopped licking her side long enough to look at the little yellow and black bird, “I saw that bird yesterday morning too. But what I find interesting is that it doesn’t come around here that often.”
“Do you mean it’s a seasonal bird?” Dukee asked.
“What do you mean?” Mia looked at Dukee.
“Well, it sounds like it’s a bird that doesn’t always live here and only show’s up during a certain season,” Dukee said as he watched it flutter up and then back down to the ground.
“Oh, well that could be,” Mia said and went back to licking her fur.
“It’s probably like that bird with the bright orange chest. That one seems to come here when the weather gets warmer,” Dukee said.
“Oh, my mom said that she was named after that one,” Mia said.
Dukee looked at Mia and asked, “that bird is called mom?”
Mia giggled, “no silly, her name is Robin and so is the bird. But she’s my mom though.”
“Oh Robin, that makes sense now because I hear my mom call her that sometimes,” Dukee snickered.
“Why was she named after a bird though?” Dukee asked.
“Um, that I don’t know, but I like it,” Mia said and then yawned.
The two of them went on to watch the birds that visited and then eventually went to their rooms to nap. But what Mia and Dukee want to know is, if you were named after someone or something? If not, whatever your name is, they say that it’s special anyways. Have a nice weekend.
