Dukee looked out the sliding glass door in the family room and walked away. As he walked toward the hallway to the front of the house, Mia followed behind him.
Dukee quickly stopped and looked back and asked, “what are you up to?”
Mia stopped and replied, “I'm not up to anything. I saw you walk away from the door and then head this way. What's wrong, is it too cold to go outside?”
Dukee sat down and explained, “yes I think it is. Even the floor by the door is cold.”
“Oh really?” Mia said.
“Yes, you should go feel it,” Dukee said.
“Well, I believe you because I noticed that the wall where the window is in my bedroom is cool,” Mia said.
“It must be cold out there then,” Dukee said as he stood up and continued down the hallway.
Dukee then walked over to the narrow window by the front door and looked out it. Mia followed at a distance and then turned and walked over to the coffee table.
She jumped up onto the table and started to eat a few kernels of food from her dish. While Mia turned around and crunched on the last kernel in her mouth, she said something about a squirrel.
Dukee jumped up onto the side table, walked to the end, and looked out the window, “did you say there was a squirrel?”
Mia licked the area around her mouth and then said, “it might be too cold for the squirrels,”
Dukee looked at Mia as she peeked out the window from the coffee table.
“Oh, yes, it probably is… Maybe as the sun warms it up they might come out. They have to eat after all,” Dukee said.
“I guess we are lucky to have our food in a warm house,” Mia said.
“Yes we are and I am very thankful,” Dukee said.
“Me too,” Mia said as she glanced around the front yard.
Mia stepped onto the blanket near the window and laid down. The two of them watched and waited for any critter to come visit.
“I bet the cooler weather is why I haven't seen any lizards either,” Mia said.
“Yes, probably. Maybe they hibernate,” Dukee said.
“Oh, you mean sleep in a warm place for a long while?” Mia asked.
“Yes, something like that,” Dukee said.
“Oh yeah, that could be,” Mia said and then licked the fur on her side.
Here in Florida it did get down to 36 degrees in our area. That is very cold for us but usually doesn't last too long. Until next time, Dukee and Mia hope that you all stay warm wherever you may be and try to have a blessed day.
