Mia was laying in her collapsible tunnel when Dukee walked in front of her. His focus was on what he was seeing outside through the narrow window by the door.
“Sss,” Said Mia.
Dukee jumped about a foot off the floor and then hurried past the tunnel. He heard Mia giggle so he knew who made that sound. He glanced behind him and then proceeded to the window. Both of them knew that they couldn't speak at that time because Auntie R was sitting there in her chair.
However, when she heard Mia hiss and Dukee’s toenails, she turned to look. She saw Dukee shake his head while he walked toward the window. Auntie R told Mia to be nice and then turned back around.
Mia crept out of the tunnel and walked over to the other window by door. She looked at Dukee and giggled again. Dukee looked at Mia and then stuck his tongue out at her. The two of them then looked out the windows and watched the squirrel that originally caught Dukee’s attention. The chubby grey squirrel was digging in the mulch right by the screened porch. It looked as if he was searching for something.
Mia looked back when she heard her mom get up out of her chair. When her mom walked down the hallway and into the other room, Mia giggled at Dukee.
“Ha ha I scared you. You should have seen how high off the floor you jumped,” Mia said and giggled again.
“You just wait little girl. I'll get you back for that,” Dukee said and looked back out the window.
Mia slowly moved toward Dukee’s tail. But before she could tap it, Dukee spun around. That made Mia quickly take off and run to the other room. She ran so fast though, that she couldn't turn or stop and slid right into the decorative boots that sit by the wall. Mia’s mom heard the thump just as she came out of the other room. She saw Mia sitting by the boots, one of them knocked over, and asked her if she was alright. Mia shook her body as she stood up and then rubbed her head on her mom’s leg. Sorry Mom, Mia thought.
Dukee was still sitting by the window but snickered to himself as he saw what Mia hit. Auntie R saw Dukee still sitting at the front of the house so she knew that it was Mia alone who created the ruckus. Auntie R petted Mia and then fixed the boots.
