It was just about 7:30 in the morning when Dukee heard the front door. He jumped down off the bed to see what was going on. He walked down the hallway and saw Mia looking out the narrow window by the front door.
“What’s going on?” Dukee asked.
Mia looked at Dukee as he walked toward her, “Mom went outside for some reason.”
Dukee walked over to the other narrow window and looked out, “it’s cold out there. I thought about about going out on the back porch earlier but changed my mind.”
“Yeah, I felt the cold air as Mom opened the door,” Mia said.
Dukee walked over to the bench by the bigger window and jumped up onto it. He looked out the window and watched as Mom was doing something by her car.
“She’s got that phone thing in her hand,” Dukee said.
“Yeah I know. Maybe she’s taking a picture of something. She’s always taking pictures of me,” Mia said.
“Yes, Auntie is always pointing her phone thing at me too. I don’t know why, all she has to do is look at me and see me,” Dukee said.
Just then, Mom turned around with her cell phone in the air.
“Now what is she doing?” Mia said as she watched out the window.
“It looks like she’s talking to it,” Dukee said.
“Maybe she called someone,” Mia said.
“Maybe but I don’t think so,” Dukee watched her.
“Oh look, here she comes,” Mia said as she anxiously waited.
Mom opened the screen door, walked in, and closed it. Mia trotted over to the side table and hopped up onto the lower shelf and waited. Mom opened the front door and walked inside shivering. Before she closed the door a cold breeze blew inside. Mia quickly shook and looked up at her Mom as she closed the door. Mom then showed Auntie what she was filming and taking pictures of outside. Mia trotted around the leather sofa, jumped up onto it, and then onto the back of it. I want to see, Mia thought.
Dukee hopped down from the bench and walked over to Auntie. After Auntie was done looking at the pictures of the frost and sunrise she walked towards her room. Dukee followed her into their room. He was ready to cuddle again since it was too cold to go outside. Mia followed her Mom as she sat down in her chair. She watched Mom as she tried to warm up her hands. I’ll help you Mom, Mia thought as she reached up for her hand. Mom grabbed Mia’s fluffy cheeks and neck with her chilly hands and rubbed her. Brrr, your hands are cold, Mia thought as she squiggled away.
Since Mom picked up her phone thing again, Mia decided to get something to eat. In the other room, Auntie sat down on her bed and started to work on her computer. Dukee jumped up by her and curled up between her legs. On cold days like these there is no better place to be then cuddled up with someone you love. For all of you who struggle with the cold weather, Mia and Dukee send warm wishes your way.
