One early morning Mia and Dukee were in the front living room just talking about various things. Dukee was on the side table looking out the narrow window by the door while Mia was relaxing on the floor.
“The other day I thought I heard my mom say that Thanksgiving was coming,” Dukee said.
“Yeah, I heard my mom mention it too. So what is that again?” Mia replied.
“Oh, I think that is the day when they are extra thankful and eat turkey,” Dukee said.
“Have I eaten turkey?” Mia asked.
“I don’t know, but I have. It’s sort of like chicken but not as good,” Dukee said.
“Oh… I’ll have to beg for some and see if I like it,” Mia said and then licked her paw.
Dukee watched a squirrel as it dug in the flower bed for some acorns, “there’s a squirrel out here looking for some nuts.”
“Yeah, it seems that one buries them one day and another unburies them the next,” Mia giggled.
“Yes, that could be possible,” Dukee said.
Just then, Mia heard her mom in the family room, “quiet, my mom is coming.”
Dukee kept quiet but stayed on the side table and looked toward the hallway. He did a quick nod of his head as he saw auntie R walking that way.
“Well, good morning Dukee,” Auntie R. said to him.
Mia giggled a little because her mom didn’t see where she was yet. Auntie R got her full bottles of water and then walked over to her chair.
“Oh there you are. I was wondering where you went to after you ate breakfast,” Auntie R said to Mia.
Mia looked up at her mom but then got up. She stretched her back legs out one at a time, and then ran and jumped up onto the kitty tower. Dukee then turned around on the table and walked down to the other end. He sat down again, glanced at Mia and then looked out the window. Mia looked up into the tree and watched as a few little birds as they jumped from branch to branch. I wonder why they do that, she thought. Dukee watched a squirrel as it nosed around the grass.
In case you are new to this story line, Mia and Dukee can have some very interesting conversations. But they don’t want their humans to know that they can talk, which is understandable. So, when their humans are in the same room as them, they only speak cat. But come back next week because you never know what Dukee and Mia might be doing or talking about.
