It was around three in the afternoon and Dukee was taking a nap on the leather stool in his bedroom. Auntie was working on a story when she saw Dukee quickly sit up. He peered out the window as if he had spotted something. This made Auntie curious so she got up to see what he was seeing.
“Well, look at that,” Auntie said.
Dukee and Auntie watched as the turkey casually walked along the fence in the neighbors yard. We think we know where the saying “peeping Tom” came from because it looked like the turkey was peeking in our window as he walked by. But then as the turkey walked toward the front yard so Dukee hopped down and ran out of the room. He ran down the hallway, into the front living room, and stopped at the narrow window by the front door.
Mia was nibbling on her food in the corner when she heard Dukee run in. She looked back to see where he was when he suddenly jumped up onto the side table.
“What’s going on?” Mia said between her crunching.
“There’s a turkey coming up here,” Dukee looked out the window.
“Oh really? Where?” Mia rushed onto the kitty tower and squeezed in between the cube and post.
“Just wait, it’s coming,” Dukee sat down and watched out the window.
Mia stared out the window and waited for the big bird to show up.
“There it is,” Dukee said.
Mia watched as the turkey slowly walked and looked around, “boy, he sure has gotten big.”
“Yes he has. I wonder what happened to all the rest of them,” Dukee said.
“That’s right, there were quite a few of them a while back,” Mia said.
Just then, Mom walked into the living room and saw the turkey. She picked up her cell phone and took a couple of pictures. Mia glanced back at her Mom as if to say, look Mom, a big turkey. And then as Mia looked back out the window, her Mom took the picture above.
“That’s a big turkey isn’t it?” Mom said to Mia and Dukee.
They all watched as the turkey strolled through the yard, onto the driveway, and into the street. When it saw a car approaching, it ran a few feet down the street and out of the way. Mia and Dukee watched until they could no longer see it, while Mom sat down in her chair. When Mia turned and hopped down from the kitty tower, Dukee then got up and walked to the other end of the side table.
Dukee jumped down and went back into his bedroom while Mia rubbed up against her Mom’s leg. However many turkey’s there are visiting the yard at a time, Mia and Dukee always enjoy seeing them.
