Auntie was sitting on her bed when she looked down and saw Dukee napping on her shoes. He must have tired himself out because he was just playing with them only moments ago. Mia on the other hand was in the front of the house looking for lizards. She started out on the bench in the dining room and looked around the window ledge.
“Where are you lizards,” Mia said.
Mia looked at the screen on the side of the porch to see if there were any lizards on there but there wasn’t. Hmm, maybe there’s some outside the other window, she thought. Mia hopped down off the bench and walked past the front door. She peeked out the narrow window before taking a short cut between the sofa and side table. She then jumped up onto the kitty tower and looked out the window.
“There you are,” Mia said while she crept closer to the window.
The lizard moved slightly so Mia took a step back.
“Okay lizard, I’ll watch you from here,” Mia said.
Mia sat still for about five minutes and watched the lizard. But after the anticipation built up, Mia lunged forward. The lizard scurried off to the side of the window where she could no longer see it. Mia then backed up again and waited for the lizard to come back. It didn’t take long before the shy little lizard peaked around the corner of the window. It must have realized that Mia wasn’t able to get it through the window.
Sometimes Mia will sit or lay near the window and watch the lizards for a half an hour or more. But this time it was only for another ten minutes. Because the lizard just sat there, Mia got bored. She turned around and hopped down off the kitty tower. She felt that it was time to see what her mom was doing. So, Mia ran as fast as her furry feet would take her out of the living room. She ran down the hallway, through the family room, and slipped through the doorway to her bedroom.
In Dukee’s room, he jumped up onto the bed near Auntie and laid down. Some Sundays, or any day for that matter can be a good day for a cat nap. Some days he just feels more tired and wants to sleep. I think that us humans could use a nap sometimes too. It’s just about making time to take one, even if it is just for twenty minutes it could help.
