After Auntie left for work, Dukee ran onto the brown paper and hit his squeaky mouse. He then trotted into his bedroom and dug out his purple peep from his toy box.
“Meow, meow,” Dukee said with the toy in his mouth.
As Dukee walked back into the family room, he saw Mia sitting near the brown paper. That made Dukee drop his toy out of his mouth.
“Was I being too loud again?” Dukee asked.
“Yes, and I think you woke my momma,” Mia said.
“Oh, sorry… I guess when my mom leaves for work I think that it’s time for everyone to be up,” Dukee said and walked toward the cardboard barn.
Mia watched Dukee as he walked around the back of the barn. He then peeked through the opening and looked at Mia. Mia had a feeling that Dukee wanted to chase her so she was prepared to run. She watched him through the barn and saw him wiggle so she ran down the hallway. Dukee ran through the barn and followed after her. Mia ran around the dining table and into the kitchen with Dukee right behind her. When Mia stopped by the dishwasher, Dukee quickly stopped.
“My momma is probably awake now for sure,” Mia said.
“Yes, she probably is,” Dukee said and waited for Mia’s next move.
Mia laid down and waited for Dukee to leave the kitchen. He finally did very cautiously, watching Mia part of the way. He then turned around and walked to the bench by the window. When he jumped up onto it, Mia got up and walked toward him.
Dukee glanced back and saw Mia behind him, “hey, look at this,” he said.
Mia jumped up onto the bench by Dukee and asked, “what do you see?”
“I don’t know, what do you think that is? It was on the wall but fell down,” Dukee said.
Mia looked down on the ground but had trouble seeing it because of where she was standing. She carefully stepped onto the window sill and moved closer to Dukee.
“Oh, that wormy looking thing?” Mia asked.
“Is that what it is?” Dukee asked.
“Well, it looks like a worm but it could be a baby snake or even something else,” Mia said.
They both watched it as it moved very slightly.
“Did you know that I caught a snake once?” Dukee said.
“You did?” Mia looked at Dukee.
“Yes, and when I brought it into the house my mom freaked out a little bit,” Dukee said and snickered.
“What did she do?” Mia asked.
“She got a blanket or something and tossed it on top of it. Then she picked it up and took it outside,” Dukee said.
“Oh wow. Was she mad at you?” Mia asked and then itched her neck.
“No, she wasn’t mad but she told me not to do that again,” Dukee said and then laid down.
Mia looked back out the window and down to the ground. She didn’t see the wormy thing anymore so she looked for other critters that might be close. Mia is attracted to anything that moves, even a tiny little knat if it's close enough. She'll hit the window trying to get it. That's one thing about most cats, they are good hunters.
