While Dukee was in his bedroom with his mom, Mia was in the front living room. She nibbled on some of her dry food and then climbed up into the tunnel part of the kitty tower. She looked out the window and glanced all around. She first saw a couple of small birds fluttering among the branches of the tree in the front yard. Then she looked to the screen porch and noticed a lizard that crept around the corner on the house.
“Ooh, a lizard. I see you lizard,” Mia said.
Is that one Larry? Mia wondered.
“No, I guess it’s not,” Mia said.
Mia watched the lizard as it slowly crept up the side near the window. When it stopped, it turned and faced the window. I wonder what lizards think about, Mia thought.
“Are you looking for your next meal or just hanging out?” Mia said.
Just then, Dukee jumped up onto the side table, “who are you talking to?
“Oh, I didn’t hear you walk in this time,” Mia looked at Dukee.
“I was just talking out loud about the lizard outside,” Mia said.
“A lizard? Where?” Dukee tried to see it.
“You might not see it from there, it’s on that edge around the window,” said Mia.
Dukee tried to look around the blind but couldn’t see it. He looked at Mia as she giggled.
“You might as well hop down onto the blanket so you can see it,” Mia said and giggled again.
Dukee did just that. He hopped down onto Mia’s litter box cabinet and slowly moved closer to the window. As Dukee scanned the outer edge of the window frame, he saw the lizard.
“Is that…”
“No, I thought of that already and it’s not. Larry would have come up to the window by now,” Mia said and then readjusted her body.
“Oh, that’s true,” Dukee said and then laid down.
“I did see Carrie the cardinal earlier this morning though,” Mia said.
“Oh yeah? Did you talk to her?” Dukee asked while he stared at the lizard.
“No, because I saw her from my bedroom window and Mom was still sleeping. Carrie saw me though and waved,” said Mia.
“Oh, okay. Well it’s good that she’s still living in the area,” Dukee said.
“Yep, it was nice that she still waved at me too,” Mia said and then stretched her arm out.
“Does she still look good?” Dukee asked.
“I guess so. She looks like a pretty bird,” said Mia.
“Oh, that’s good,” Dukee said and then sat up to itch his ear.
