Mia was on the rug rolling around and stopped when she heard Dukee’s feet. She peeked under the sofa and watched as Dukee’s feet walked over to the narrow window by the door. Dukee looked out the window and saw a dark colored lizard on the porch screen. He watched it as it scurried down to the porch floor. It looked as if it was chasing something but Dukee didn’t see anything.
Mia laid there until she saw the tip of Dukee’s tail wiggle and was curious as to what he was watching. After all, Mia loves to stare down any lizards she sees. But, she also likes to scare Dukee. So, she quickly got up but quietly crept over to the side table. When Mia stepped up onto the bottom shelf of the table, it creaked this time. She stopped but Dukee looked right at her.
“What are doing?” Dukee asked.
Mia giggled, “I was just wondering what you were watching.”
“You can't fool me little Missy. But, if you must know, it's a lizard. One of those big black ones,” Dukee said and then looked back out the window.
Mia trotted around the sofa the other way and went over to the other window. She first looked up on the screen.
“Where is it?” Mia asked.
“It’s on the floor by that thing,” Dukee said.
Mia scanned the area, “oh I see it. That's a big one.”
Mia flicked her tail and made a couple of chatter sounds. Dukee looked at Mia and saw her eagerness to catch that lizard.
“I might have asked you this before but what would you do if you could catch that lizard?” Dukee asked.
“I'd probably play with it,” Mia said.
“If you had to, would you eat it?” Dukee asked and then scratched his side.
“If I didn't get good food from mom, I probably would,” Mia said as she watched the lizard scurry up the side screen.
“I understand that,” Dukee said and then walked over to the bench.
Dukee jumped up onto the bench and looked out the window. He saw something different crawling on the ground.
“Hey, look at this spider. It's sort of creepy looking,” Dukee said.
Mia was done watching the lizard for now so she walked over to the bench and jumped up.
“Spider? Where?” Mia said.
“See that thing out there with the other things in it?” Dukee said.
Mia looked down at the cement planter, “yeah?” Oh, I see it now… Ooo, that is creepy looking.”
The two of them watched the spider as it crept up onto its web. The spider suddenly stopped, and then quickly moved closer to a bug that just got stuck in the sticky web.
“Looks like it just got its breakfast,” Mia said.
“Sure does… But I'm glad that I don't have to eat bugs,” Dukee said.
“They don’t taste that bad,” Mia said, “but I don’t think that I would eat a spider.”
“Why do you eat bugs when you don't have to?” Dukee asked.
“Well, when one gets in the house, I play with it. And then if it sticks to me, I eat it. And that way mom doesn't have to deal with it either,” Mia said.
Dukee snickered, “you're silly.”
Mia and Dukee watched that spider for a couple more minutes until they heard sounds from the other room.
“Sounds like our mom’s are up,” Dukee said and then hopped down.
“Yep, maybe now I’ll get my breakfast,” Mia said as she hopped down.
Until next week, Dukee and Mia want to wish you a wonderful weekend. Take care everyone.
