It was about ten-thirty at night and everyone went to bed except Dukee and Mia. Dukee ran down the hallway and jumped up onto the leather sofa. He loudly meowed and looked around as if something was flying around his head.
Mia crawled out of the cardboard cottage, “what are you doing?
“What?” Dukee spun around and looked at Mia. “Oh, nothing. I just thought I saw something.”
“Well, I think you’re just goofy,” Mia walked around the back of the sofa and over to the side table.
Dukee looked down at the floor to see where Mia went when he heard her behind him. Dukee turned around and saw Mia sneaking in between the sofa and the side table. She then glanced in his direction as she hurried over to the coffee table.
“Wouldn’t it have been easier to just walk past me?” Dukee asked.
Mia jumped up onto the coffee table and then looked back at Dukee, “yes, it would have been but I wasn’t sure if you would jump on me or something.”
“I wouldn’t jump on you. Maybe over you but not on you,” Dukee sat down on the sofa.
Mia walked up to her food dish and said, “well, when you’re in a goofy mood, I really don’t know what you would do.”
Dukee decided to lay down where he sat while Mia munched on her dry food. With it being quiet in the house, Dukee could hear Mia crunching the firm kernels.
“You really like that stuff don’t you? Dukee asked.
In between bites, Mia said, “yes, it’s yummy, why?”
“Its just that, I don’t think it tastes that great,” Dukee said.
“Well, you’re not supposed to be eating my food anyway. And keep your mush out of my water bowls,” Mia said.
After Dukee snickered at what Mia said, he looked out the front window and saw a flash of lightening.
“Uh oh,” Dukee said.
Mia swallowed the last bit of food in her mouth and said, “what?”
Just then, some thunder rumbled. Mia jumped down off the coffee table and ran into the hallway. Dukee sat back up and looked toward the hall. He saw Mia sitting there and looking toward the front door.
“I don’t understand why that sound of thunder bothers you but the booms of the fireworks didn’t,” Dukee hopped down off the sofa.
Mia looked at Dukee as he walked toward her, “I don’t understand it either but it feels different to me.”
“Well, I’m going to go to bed, are you going to be okay?” Dukee asked her.
“Yeah, I’ll go in my room by my Mom,” Mia said.
“Okay, good night,” Dukee walked down the hallway and into his and Auntie’s bedroom.
Mia got up and trotted down the hall, through the family room, and into her bedroom. Her Mom was watching TV so Mia jumped up onto the bed and walked over to her. Mom gave Mia some loving pets and told her that everything is alright. That made Mia feel much better so she hopped down and laid down on the rug beside the bed. She didn’t hear anymore thunder either which was good.
