The Day With Dukee And Mia

Chapter 21, Somebody was having fun.

Mom, Auntie and Grandpa walked out of the house and climbed into the car. Mia walked up and sat down by the narrow window. Now where is Mom going, Mia thought. Dukee walked down the hallway and up to the other narrow window by the door.

“I saw Auntie pack some stuff into her grocery bag. Where do you think they’re going?” Dukee asked.

“I don’t know. But usually when Mom packs something, it means that she will be gone for a while,” Mia looked at Dukee.

“Auntie didn’t say anything about being gone all day,” Dukee said.

“Well, I guess they will be back later though. Do you want to play?” Mia asked.

“Really? You want to play with me?” Dukee turned and looked at Mia.

“Sure, why not,” Mia said while she walked over to her rubber ball. “You go down to the end of the hallway and I’ll hit this ball to you.”

“Oh, okay,” Dukee trotted past Mia and went down to the end of the hall.

With her front right paw, Mia hit the yellow rubber ball and it rolled and bounced off of the wall. The ball didn’t roll all the way to Dukee but he ran up and hit it back to Mia. She had to hop to the side but hit the ball again, and it went closer to Dukee this time. The two of them played with that ball for a few minutes until Mia then hit her pink mouse. She pounced at the mouse and then picked it up with her claws. Dukee had the yellow ball and gave it one hard hit towards Mia. The ball hit the front door behind Mia, bounced, and hit her in the butt.

“Hey,” Mia looked at Dukee.

Dukee snickered at Mia and was ready to run. Mia could see that Dukee was waiting to be chased. So, she pretended to play with her pink mouse but then ran towards Dukee. Dukee turned around and ran as fast as he could around the corner and through the family room. While Mia chased him, he ran through his colorful string that hung from the wall and reached out to the sofa. The string wrapped around Dukee as he ran into the kitchen until Mia stepped on it.

The string now laid stretched out from the family room, around the counter corner, and on the kitchen floor. Dukee ran out of the kitchen, into the front living room, and onto the kitty tower. Mia was close to his tail the whole time. She even swatted his tail after she jumped over it and up onto the coffee table.

“Hey, Dukee turned around.

Mia giggled, jumped down, and ran into the kitchen. Dukee hopped down and chased after her. Dukee followed her through the kitchen, into the family room, and around the sofa and wingback chair. As fast as she could, Mia ran back down the hallway and into the cardboard chalet. Because she was running so fast and stopped suddenly inside the chalet, the chalet slid and turned so it faced the other direction. Dukee stopped and looked at the back of the chalet.

“Okay, I need to rest,” Mia said breathing heavily.

Dukee turned around and walked back into the family room. He laid down near the cardboard barn and rested too. Mia eventually came out of the chalet and hopped up onto the coffee table to get a drink of water. Dukee also got up but went into his bedroom. He felt that the play period was done for now and decided to take a nap. Mia also decided to take a nap, so she trotted down the hallway, through the family room, and went into her bedroom.

A few hours had passed when Mom, Auntie, and Grandpa arrived back home. Dukee got up and walked toward the front of the house first when he heard the car doors. When Auntie unlocked the house door and walked inside, she could tell by toys everywhere and the backward chalet that a chase was going on. Looks like somebody was having fun, she thought. She gave Dukee some love and then put some stuff away. Mia trotted out of her room shortly after grandpa and his big feet were no longer in sight. Mia was happy to see her Mom and get some love from her too.

It was an enjoyable day all around for everyone. A little exercise, some fresh air, and some playtime. Dukee and Mia hope that you all take some time to do something fun too. You have to let go and enjoy yourself sometimes otherwise life can become dull.
