The Day With Dukee And Mia

I scared you

Mia was playing in her bedroom but behind the door. Dukee was curious and walked close to her bedroom. When he slowly crept closer to the door Mia peeked under and saw Dukee’s feet. She hissed at him so he quickly turned to run but couldn’t get very good traction. The sound of his nails on the floor woke up Auntie R. She looked and saw Mia peeking out of the bedroom and then heard the crinkle of the plastic bag that Dukee plopped down on. Auntie R. knew then that Mia must have scared Dukee.

Dukee then played with his toys that were close to the bag which got Mia’s attention. She looked out to see if Dukee was looking her way which he wasn’t. So she quietly crept out and snuck up next to the cardboard barn. Mia thought that this was a chance to scare Dukee again but it didn’t work. Before Mia darted out from behind the barn, Dukee laid back and looked because he felt that she was there. He watched for Mia and then she jumped out.

“Boo!” Mia said.

“I knew that you were there,” Dukee said.

“How did you know?” She asked.

“I just had the feeling that you came out and hid there,” Dukee said.

“Oh, well I scared you once anyway,” Mia said.

Dukee turned around to look at Mia better and said, “you didn’t scare me. You startled me when you hissed but you didn’t scare me.”

“No, I scared you. I heard how fast you tried to run,” Mia said.

“Okay, you scared me a little. But I knew you were in there playing. I just didn’t know that you saw me,” Dukee said.

“I heard your toenail and then I looked below the door,” Mia said and giggled.

“Oh, that’s funny. Well, you are lower to the floor so it’s probably easy for you to look under,” Dukee said and then snickered.

“Yes, sometimes it’s good to be short,” Mia said.

“True, because even though you might be shorter then me, you can still jump really high,” Dukee said.

“Yep, and most of the time I don’t even have to think about it. I just jump with no problem,” Mia explained.

“I bet sometimes you miss though, don’t you?” Dukee asked.

Mia giggled, “yes sometimes, like when I’m still sleepy.” Mia giggled again, “the other morning when I woke up, I followed my mom into the bathroom. I decided to get a drink of water so I went to jump up onto the sink. Well, let’s just say that I didn’t quite make it.”

Dukee snickered, “let me guess, it was a practice jump.”

Mia giggled, “yes, I guess you could say that. I think sometimes my hairy feet slow up my take off power.”

“Yeah, I can understand that,” Dukee looked at Mia’s feet, “but you have a lot of fur everywhere though.”

Mia bent forward, stretched her back, and then stuck her right back leg out, “yes I do,” Mia giggled.

Dukee snickered at Mia and then slowly followed her to the front of the house. It might be critter watch time for these two. Lately once early evening comes, Arney the armadillo shows up in search of his dinner. Mia curiously watches him while he digs in the flower beds and the grass. Dukee has only seen him a couple of times so far so maybe he’ll see him tonight.
