“Hey Mia, did you see that bird?” Dukee asked as he looked down at her.
“Yes, but if you keep putting your head in my way I can’t,” Mia said.
Dukee turned toward the window again, “I’m sorry. I don’t know how well you can see from down there.”
The two of them were quiet for a minute and then Mia spoke up.
“I’m sorry Dukee. It’s just this new year stuff has got me concerned,” Mia said.
Dukee looked down at Mia again and asked, “why? what concerns you about it?”
“Well, with each year that goes by, you never know what might happen,” Mia explained.
Dukee thought for only a few seconds and then replied, “well, the uncertainty of life can make us appreciate it more. Each day that is given to us we should enjoy and learn from.”
“But what if I have a day where me or my mom don’t feel good?” Mia asked.
“We all have days like that. We do what we can to feel better and then appreciate the good days even more,” Dukee said and then looked back out the window.
Mia came out from below the kitty tower and jumped up onto it. She them crawled into the cube part of it and laid down.
Mia then looked at Dukee and said, “you know, you are pretty smart.”
Dukee looked back at Mia, “thank you. You’re smart too.”
“Thank you. But how do you know stuff like this?” Mia asked.
Dukee thought for a moment and then replied, “I honestly don’t know. My brain just comes up with this stuff.”
Mia giggle and then looked out the window, “I guess with you also being much older than me helps.”
Dukee shook his head while he stared out the window. He knew by that remark that she made, that Mia was back to her sassy self.
“Look at that cute little bird,” Mia said.
“We’ve seen those before,” Dukee replied.
“I know, but that one might be new to the family,” Mia said and then giggled.
Dukee and Mia just relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the new year morning. With winter here in Florida, we see a lot of “Robin” birds that migrate from our home state of Wisconsin, which is cool. Of course both Mia and Dukee were born here in Florida so they just think every bird is from Florida. Anyway, we all hope that you all have a happy and healthy New Year. May God bless us all.
I love your Dukee and Mia stories !
I hope in 2025 you continue their stories in your busy days.
