Mia ducked inside the cube part of the kitty tower when she saw a large shadow of something as it flew over the yard.
Dukee looked up at the sky and then at Mia and asked, “what’s the matter?”
“Those big shadows only mean one thing,” Mia said.
“And what’s that?” Dukee asked.
“A huge bird,” Mia said while she stayed hidden.
“Well there’s nothing out there because it flew away. And besides, it can’t get you when your in the house,” Dukee said.
“Are you sure it’s gone?” Mia asked.
Dukee looked up at the sky and then he hopped down onto Mia’s litter box cabinet to scanned the large tree in the front yard.
“Yes, it’s gone. I don’t see any bird,” Dukee said and then looked back at Mia.
“Okay, I trust that you don’t see one. But I’m only coming out part way,” Mia said as she peeked her head out just a little to look.
Mia then brought her front half out of the cube and laid down. Dukee then laid down on the blanket and watched as a squirrel walked over to the tree.
Mia noticed that Dukee was watching something and asked, “what do you see?
“It’s just a squirrel, scaredy cat,” Dukee said and snickered.
“Oh, I can’t see it,” Mia said and then looked out into the front yard.
“You can’t see it? It’s right by the tree,” Dukee said but held real still so the squirrel wouldn’t see him.
“I can’t see it because your big head is in my way,” Mia said.
“Well, slowly move up here by me,” Dukee said.
“No, that’s okay. It’s probably the same squirrel that I saw earlier anyway,” Mia said.
Dukee watched the squirrel as it sat and nibbled on something. Mia just gazed up at the sky for a minute or two. When the squirrel searched for something else and turned his back, Dukee readjusted his back legs. Mia watched Dukee as he turned more on his side.
“It’s hard to stay in a frozen position isn’t it?” Mia asked and giggled.
“Yes, sometimes it is. It depends on the position too,” Dukee said.
“That’s true. I remember one morning in my bedroom, I heard the birds out back so I stood up by the window sill and peeked out. I saw a few birds on the grass so I watched them. But my back legs started to get tired so I had to slowly go back down and sit for a minute. I really wanted to hop up onto the sill, but I knew that if I did that, I might scare them away,” Mia explained.
“So what did you do?” Dukee asked.
“I rested a minute and then slowly stood up again and peeked out. But then, they must have heard something because then they flew up into the trees,” Mia said as she adjusted herself.
Suddenly the squirrel scurried up the tree and stopped on one of the branches. It laid still and Dukee watched it.
“Is there something else out there?” Mia asked as she looked around Dukee.
“I don’t see anything new,” Dukee said and looked around.
“Oh, do you think that squirrels are too cautious?” Mia asked.
“Probably no more cautious than you and I,” Dukee said.
“Oh, I guess they just moved around like it,” Mia said.
“Yeah, probably,” Dukee said as he glanced up at the sky.
Mia and Dukee laid there by the front window for awhile and looked out for different critters. Once Dukee mentioned a lizard, Mia had no problem going up to the window again. Lizards and frogs are her favorite critters to watch.
Anyway, Mia and Dukee hope that you all are having a good week so far and they will be back next week. Don’t forget to subscribe and tell your friends.
