Auntie gave Dukee his breakfast, and when he was done she let him out onto the back screened porch. After Auntie went back to her bedroom, Mia walked into the family room and over to the sliding glass door. She saw Dukee by the screen door pawing at something so she watched him. After a few seconds, Mia saw Dukee run towards her and saw a lizard.
“Oh, so that’s what he found,” Mia said.
Mia laid down by the sliding door and watched as Dukee moved to the rug. Dukee looked at Mia and then motioned his paw toward the lizard.
“Is that Larry?” Mia asked through the door.
Dukee nodded his head yes while Larry waved at Mia.
“Hi Larry,” Mia said and lifted her front paw.
“So what have you been doing lately Larry?” Dukee asked.
“Oh, just trying to keep track of the kids. I have so many of them now and they are always moving that I can’t keep up with them,” Larry laughed.
“What about you two? What have you and Mia been up to?” Larry asked.
“Not much really. Auntie had been working quite a bit so I spend some time out here and then go inside and take a nap. Mia and I chase each other sometimes but otherwise she gets sort of grumpy with me,” Dukee said.
“I heard that Dukee,” Mia said with a huff.
“Well, it’s true,” Dukee said and stuck his tongue out at Mia. “But otherwise we’ve seen a turkey in the front yard a few times and the deer stop by the neighbor’s yard sometimes,” Dukee said.
“Yeah, I have to watch those bigger birds because they might find me and think of me as a good snack,” Larry chomped at the air.
“Do you still live down near the canal?” Dukee asked.
“Yes we do. And now that mosquito season is upon us again, we’ll have some good eating,” Larry said.
“Mosquitoes? Yuck!” Dukee said and scrunched up his nose.
Larry looked at Mia as she shook her head no to mosquitoes too.
“Oh, it’s a good source of protein for us,” Larry said.
“No thank you,” Dukee snickered. “I’ll stick with the food that Auntie buys me.”
All of a sudden Mia saw her Mom walk towards her and the sliding door. She took a picture of Mia, Dukee, and Larry as they sat there.
“Is that Mia’s Mom or your Auntie?” Larry asked.
“Oh, that’s Mia’s Mom,” Dukee said.
After Mia looked up at her Mom, her Mom walked into the front living room. Mia wanted to see what her Mom was going to do so she waved goodbye to Larry and trotted to the front living room.
“Well, I do have to be getting along now Dukee. It was nice to catch up with you. You be nice to Mia, after all she is a young one yet. But have some fun too,” Larry said to Dukee.
“Okay Larry. It was nice to see you too. And good luck with the mosquito hunting,” Dukee said.
Dukee followed Larry to the screen door and watched how he crept trough the bent and cracked open part on the base of the door. As Larry peeked his head back through he told Dukee that the door needs fixing.
Dukee snickered, “yes, I know it does.”
Dukee stood up and looked out the screen door. He watched how Larry zoomed across the grass and down towards the canal.
“Well that was a nice surprise,” Dukee said and walked over to the sliding glass door.
He meowed and waited to see if Auntie or someone would let him inside the house. It wasn’t long before Auntie did check on Dukee and let him inside.
Dukee meowed at Auntie and walked around to the other side of the sofa. He suddenly got the munchies and headed toward his room. Auntie followed him in and sat back down on their bed. Dukee ate some kernels of his food and thought that when he got done that he would spend some time cuddling with Auntie.
Mia was in the front living room watching some birds from her kitty tower. Every once in a while the smaller mocking bird would swoop down and chase away a big black crow. Those crows are noisy anyways so I would do the same thing if I were a bird, Mia thought.
