Mia’s bedroom door hit the scratch post when she rushed out of her room and into the family room. Her furry feet still gripped the floor as she ran all the way into the front living room. She stopped suddenly at the narrow window by the door and looked out it.
“Ooo, look at that pretty green lizard.”
After the lizard scurried up the screen, Mia watched as a squirrel crept into the front yard. It sniffed around the grass, dug a hole and found it’s buried nut. She watched how the squirrel held the nut with its front paws and chewed on it. It wasn’t long though before the squirrel moved on and looked for another one. Dig dig dig, Mia thought as she watched the squirrel.
All of a sudden, the squirrel ran up the trunk of the tree and and onto one of the branches. It squeaked and chattered as if something scared it. Mia looked around and then noticed the shadow on the ground of something large flying over.
“Wow, that must be a big bird,” Mia looked up.
Just then Dukee walked up behind Mia, “where’s a big bird?”
“Ah, you scared me,” Mia turned and looked at Dukee.
“Oh, sorry,” Dukee walked over to the other narrow window and looked out. “I don’t see a big bird.
“That’s because it flew over,” Mia said.
“What makes you say that?” Dukee looked over at Mia.
“Because I was watching that squirrel when all of a sudden it ran up the tree squawking. Then I noticed a large shadow fly over,” Mia explained.
“Oh, I get it now. So the big bird wasn’t on the ground then?” Dukee asked.
“No, it was in the air. Unless something else in the air made that shadow,” Mia said.
“Yeah, it was probably a crane or vulture then,” Dukee looked up into the tree.
“Yes, maybe,” Mia said and walked a few feet away.
Mia yawned and stretched her back left leg out before she laid down.
“I’m tired,” Mia said while she rolled onto her side.
Dukee turned and looked at Mia, “well, you were up early again weren’t you?”
“Yes, I guess so… I can’t help it that I like my breakfast early,” Mia said and yawned again.
“Well, go take a nap now. Is your Mom up yet?” Dukee asked.
“Yes, I think so. She was watching TV in our bedroom when I came out here,” Mia said.
“Well, go in your room and take a nap with her,” Dukee said.
“Yeah, I suppose I could do that,” Mia yawned again.
Dukee snickered at Mia and then walked around the dining table and into the kitchen. He was ready to go out onto the back porch. So he walked into the family room and up to the sliding glass door. Just as Dukee meowed to go outside, Mia got up and trotted down the hallway and into the family room. Mia then glanced toward the sliding glass door as she trotted toward her bedroom. Dukee walked around the wingback chair and saw Auntie come out of their room. He was happy now that he knew that he was going to be let outside.
