The Day With Dukee And Mia

Dukee sat on the end of the side table and watched out the narrow window. Mia sat on the floor by the narrow window and watched.

“What are they doing?” Dukee asked.

“I don't know. They're looking at something though,” Mia said.

Mia and Dukee watched their momma’s as they stood out in the front yard.

“It looks like my mom is taking a picture of something again,” Mia said.

“Oh yeah, they're good at doing that aren't they?” Dukee said.

“Yes they are. I don't think my mom can go a whole day without taking a picture of me or something,” Mia said and giggled.

“I agree with you there. I don't think that my momma can either,” Dukee snickered.

“Well, maybe it's their way of keeping things alive. Like that big picture on the wall in the hallway. I've heard my mom call that kitty in the picture Crissy,” Mia said and then itched her ear.

“Oh yeah, that makes sense. But why take pictures of the sky? Isn't that what they are doing?” Dukee asked.

“Yes, and I'm not sure. Our humans can be silly sometimes,” Mia said.

“Oh, it looks like they're coming back inside now,” Dukee said.

Mia’s mom and Auntie stepped into the front porch. They continued talking as they came back into the house. Mia moved away from the door to let them come in. Dukee sniffed the cool air that came in while he stayed sitting on the table. Auntie made sure that Dukee didn't try to sneak out past them like he does occasionally.

Mia’s mom bent down to pet her head but Mia wanted to sniff her instead. The cool air had a different smell that Mia wasn't sure about. Dukee hopped down off the table and was hoping for some treats. For some reason Dukee thinks that he gets treats whenever his momma comes back into the house from going somewhere or doing something.

But as Dukee walked into the hall, his momma sat down in the living room. He stopped and turned back around. Hey, where's my treats, he thought. Mia was just happy that her mom was safe and sound inside by her again. Mia also rubbed her head against her momma’s leg while she sat talking to Auntie. Dukee walked back toward the living room and sat down. He listened while his momma and Auntie R talked.

Sometimes in life you don't get the treats you want when you want them. Sometimes you have to be patient and be thankful for what you do have.
