It was almost seven in the morning when Mia trotted into the front living room. She jumped up onto the coffee table to get a bite to eat. While she was nibbling on her food, Dukee was lying in her tent on her moms chair. He watched Mia while she ate and then snickered when she walked over to the window and looked out. Dukee couldn’t help but giggle when Mia chattered at the robin bird on the grass in the front yard. Mia glanced back because she thought she heard something behind her, but then looked out the window again.
“Good morning,” Dukee said.
Mia turned and looked around behind her but didn’t see Dukee until he snickered again.
“Hey, what are you doing in my tent?” Mia asked.
“It looked comfortable so I thought I would try it,” Dukee said.
“Well, get out of there,” Mia Jumped down.
“Why? I’m comfortable,” Dukee looked down at Mia.
“Because, that’s my tent,” Mia reached up and tapped Dukee’s paw.
“Hey, I’m not hurting anything,” Dukee said.
Mia sat on the floor and stared up at Dukee until Mom walked into the living room. When Mom looked at Mia and then Dukee, she smiled. Mia then, walked up to her Moms leg and rubbed on it. Mom, Dukee’s in my tent, she thought. Dukee looked at Mom and then climbed out of the tent. He then stretched and hopped down. Auntie might be up now anyways, he thought.
Mia quickly turned around as Dukee hurried over to the bottom of the side table. He wanted to get out of the room before Mia decided to swipe at him for being in her tent. Dukee stepped down and stopped at the narrow window by the front door. A squirrel outside caught his eye for the moment. Mia peeked around the end of the leather sofa and watched Dukee for a minute until Mom did something by her chair that got her attention.
Dukee turned around and didn’t see Mia, so he walked toward the hallway. But just as he thought, while he walked past the sofa, Mia ran after him. Dukee quickly ran into the family room and jumped up onto the red chaise lounge chair. Mia followed after him but stopped near the cardboard barn.
“Ha ha, you didn’t catch me,” Dukee said.
“Don’t tease me. You know that I’ll get you when you least expect it,” Mia said and turned around.
“Yeah, that’s because you’re a trouble maker,” Dukee said.
Mia fluffed her tail and walked back down the hallway and into the front living room. Dukee hopped down off the chaise and laid down by his toy mouse. From one day to the next, you never really know what Mia and Dukee will be doing or talking about.
