Mia was sitting by the sliding glass door to the outside patio when Dukee walked up beside her and sat down.
“What are you looking at?” Dukee asked.
“I’m not looking at anything. I’m trying to find out who is making all that noise and talking so loud,” Mia peered through the glass.
“Oh, it’s probably those kids across the canal. They can get kind of loud sometimes,” Dukee said.
“Kids? There are kids? I hadn’t seen any kids outside,” Mia said.
“Yeah, I can’t see them either, but sometimes I hear them when I’m outside,” Dukee looked at Mia.
“Well, as long as they don’t come in here. They’re loud and probably annoying,” Mia got up and walked away.
Dukee looked out the glass door and noticed how nice it looked outside. He meowed and then reached up onto the chair that sat near grandpa’s desk. He scratched on the chair which then led to Auntie yelling out, Dukee no. But Dukee knew then that it was a matter of minutes before Auntie would walk over to see if he wanted to go outside. Dukee waited by the sliding door and Auntie then came walking toward him. Oh good, he thought.
When auntie opened the sliding door, Dukee walked out onto the patio and looked into the back yard. He first watched a squirrel as it scurried along the back fence and then up the tall pine tree. Then, he saw a lizard crawl all the way up the screen. It was a beautiful 79 degrees outside and the sun was shining bright. Dukee enjoyed this time of year with the not so humid temperatures. He laid down, stretched his body out, and took in a deep breath. What a nice day, he thought.
Mia trotted into the front living room and walked up to her mom as she sat in her chair. Mia allowed Mom to give her a couple of neck rubs and then jumped up onto the kitty tower. Mia climbed up into the tunnel part of the kitty tower and looked out the front window. At first she didn’t see anything. But then, a green anole crept out from the side of the house and onto the front porch screen. Ooo, a lizard. Mia thought. She watched the lizard as it scurried and then stopped. It looked around, and then crept little by little to the corner of the screen.
I wonder what it’s doing, Mia thought. The anole then looked down toward the ground, and crept slowly down the screen. Mia watched it, when suddenly she saw the lizards tongue shoot out. Oh, I think that it just got it’s breakfast, she thought. Mia watched as the lizard chewed only a couple of times before it swallowed. Then, the anole turned around and scurried a few inches back up the screen. I don’t know what it ate but it couldn’t have been big enough to fill it up, Mia thought.
Mia continued to watch out the front window while Dukee moved from the patio floor to the chair. He jumped up onto the chair and laid down. But he also decided to bathe himself while he was there. He listened to the various birds chirping and the sound of the neighbors water fountain while he bathed. What a peaceful day, he thought. Dukee looked up as he saw a bright red cardinal fly past the screen. I wonder if that was Harold, he thought as he went back to bathing.

Mia also saw a very young Morning Dove pecking in our garden as she was watching it from her bed scratch post next to the front window.
