Dukee and Mia watched as a squirrel crept up the side of the screen porch. They heard it chattering at them as it turned around.
“Do you see it?” Dukee glanced back at Mia.
“Yes. Stop moving; you might scare it away,” Mia said as she looked above Dukee.
“It’s probably going to go up onto the roof again,” Dukee said.
“Yeah, maybe. I wonder what he's telling his friends,” Mia said as she listened.
Then Mia thought she heard someone walk into the kitchen so she looked back, but didn't see anyone.
“Oh, there it went,” Dukee said as he looked toward the ceiling.
“Are there anymore in the yard?” Mia turned back around and asked.
“Yeah. Why don't you come up here?” Dukee asked Mia.
“No, I don't feel like being next to you,” she said.
“I'm not going to bite you,” Dukee said as he glanced back at her.
“You might,” she said.
Dukee looked back out the window, “no, not unless you start something.”
“I think I'll go look out the other window,” Mia said.
“Okay. I can meet you over there,” Dukee said.
“No. You just enjoy your time here,” Mia said and then walked over to the living room.
Mia jumped up onto the coffee table and peeked out the window. When she saw a squirrel come down the tree, she slowly crepted onto her blanket and laid down.
“See that squirrel?” Dukee asked.
“Yep, I'm watching it,” Mia said and then lowered her head a little more.
Dukee and Mia could spend hours watching the squirrels if they hung around long enough for them to do just that. Sometimes Dukee gets frustrated if there aren't any squirrels around to watch. But Auntie R or his mom just tells him that he has to be patient. Do you get frustrated if you have to wait awhile for something?
Until next week, Mia and Dukee hope that you have a wonderful week.
