The Day With Dukee And Mia
Mia was up on the kitty tower and inside of the tunnel part when Dukee sniffed around the base of it. He didn’t know where Mia was but sensed that she was close by. Mia heard that Dukee was in the area and held very still. When Dukee walked over to Mia’s litter box cabinet and peeked inside, Mia saw him and spoke up.
“Hey, get out of my potty house,” Mia said.
Dukee quickly backed up and looked around. He then saw where Mia was.
“Oh hi Mia. I wasn’t going to use it. I knew that you were around but I didn’t see you up there,” Dukee said.
“If you weren’t going to use my potty house then why were you looking in there?” Mia asked.
“Um, to see if that’s where you were?” Dukee said and then jumped up on top of the litter box cabinet.
Mia stared at Dukee for a minute and then said, “I’ll let it slide this time but stay out of there. That is my private place.”
“Okay, okay, I understand,” Dukee said and then looked out the window.
Dukee then looked up into the sky.
“Do you see something?” Mia asked and backed up and out of the tunnel.
“It’s just one of those big black birds,” Dukee said.
“Oh, I don’t like those,” Mia said.
“I know. It’s gone now,” Dukee said.
“Good,” Mia said and climbed back into the tunnel.
Mia looked out the window to make sure and then she relaxed again.
“Well, we made it through another year of those noisy booming things,” Mia said.
“Oh, you mean fireworks?” Dukee said and glanced back at Mia.
“Yes, those.”
“It didn’t seem as bad this year even with all the new people around here,” Dukee said and looked back out the window.
“I noticed that too, but that’s good. Who wants to listen to all that noise every night anyways,” Mia said and then yawned.
Dukee looked at Mia again, “you were up during the night again weren’t you?”
“Yes. I wasn’t sleepy then,” Mia said and yawned once more.
“And I’m also more tired today because I didn’t have very restful naps yesterday due to the storm,” Mia said.
“I can understand that. Did you wake your mom up though last night?” Dukee asked.
“I did, but didn’t mean to. I was playing with my marbles a little too loud this time,” Mia said.
“Why don’t you play in here? The noise wouldn’t be as noticeable,” Dukee said and looked back out the window.
“I could but I like to be close to my mom,” Mia said.
Dukee shook his head and then watched a butterfly as it flew down and landed on the Penta flower. Mia then stretched her neck out to see the butterfly better from where she was.
“That’s a pretty one,” she said.
“Yes it is… Don’t you think that it would be fun to fly like that?” Dukee said.
Mia thought for a minute, “no, I don’t. See, you like high places, I prefer to stay close to the floor most of the time.”
“Yeah, I understand that. It’s pretty easy to climb up high, but sometimes getting back down is the hard part. But then with wings it might be easier,” Dukee said.
Mia giggled because she pictured Dukee with wings and then asked, “do things look that much different from up high?”
“Not so much different, but smaller. And you can see more,” Dukee said.
“Oh, that makes sense,” Mia said and then yawned again.
Mia backed up out the the tunnel and climbed down onto the coffee table. She ate some of her dry food and then hopped down to the floor.
“Where ya going?” Dukee looked back and asked.
“I think I’m going to take a nap. Mom will be home in awhile so I want to be more awake when she arrives,” Mia said.
“Oh okay. Well sleep good,” Dukee said.
“See you later,” Mia said and walked toward her bedroom.
Dukee laid down on the blanket there and just looked outside. The peace and quiet was relaxing enough to make him feel sleepy as well. He didn’t know if he would take a nap too but if he did, he did. The life of a cat can be that simple sometimes.
Mia and Dukee want to wish you all a great week and have some fun. Life can be short so enjoy it.
