It was close to 8:15 in the morning and Mia was playing with her baby Lamb-chop. She tossed her toy up into the air and after it landed, she batted it across the floor. Mia softly meowed and squeaked as she played with her favorite toy. When Lamb-chop slid under the side table, Mia hopped up onto the bottom shelf of the table and peeked at it.
“I’m going to get you,” Mia said to her toy.
With her claws on her front right paw, Mia reached under the table, grabbed her Lamb-chop, and pulled it out. With a quick hop down onto the floor, Mia meowed again. She tossed her toy into the air and pounced after it. Mia then tapped her toy but then heard a noise in the other room. She laid down behind her Lamb-chop and watched down the hallway. Within a few minutes, Dukee walked out of his bedroom and into the family room and looked down the hallway. There he saw Mia in the front living room watching him.
Dukee then casually walked down the hallway but watched Mia the whole time. He was prepared to run if she was going to chase him. But Mia stayed by her Lamb-chop while Dukee walked up to her.
“Are you playing with your toy?” Dukee glanced at Lamb-chop.
“Yes, I was. What were you doing?” Mia asked.
“I was just looking out the window in my room,” Dukee said.
“Was there any critters out there?” Mia asked.
“Just a couple of birds but they flew away,” Dukee said and then walked past Mia.
Mia turned around to watch Dukee as he walked over to the narrow window by the front door. Dukee looked outside and saw a lizard move on the front porch.
“I wonder what Larry has been doing?” Dukee said.
“He’s probably eating bugs and running around,” Mia giggled... “Why? She asked.
“Oh, there’s a lizard outside that looks sort of like him. It made me think of him,” Dukee glanced back at Mia.
“Well, I wonder where Carrie has been. Ever since those people cut a lot of that tree away, I haven’t seen her,” Mia got up and walked over to the other narrow window.
“That’s right, I haven’t seen her in the backyard either when I’m out there,” Dukee said.
“I hope that she and her family are alright,” Mia glanced all around the screens on the front porch.
“Well, maybe they moved so she hasn’t been able to visit us as much,” Dukee said.
“Yes, maybe… I hope that’s all,” Mia sat down.
Mia and Dukee just sat at each window and observed the small piece of world they call home.
Even in the animal kingdom they are aware of who has been gone or missing for a while. Animals are very smart and receptive. As humans, let us be aware of the animals and critters that we share this world with. After all, they may have been here first. Until next time, have a wonderful week.
