In the morning hours, Mia watched a young squirrel as it climbed up onto the bird feeder. She quietly sat on part of the kitty tower and watched as it picked up some sunflower seed and nibbled on it. This is pretty cool being able to watch the squirrel so closely, Mia thought.
Mia then inched her way onto the blanket and laid down to watch the squirrel. Oh good, it must trust me, Mia thought.
Ever since we put the bird feeder outside, it has given Mia and Dukee a chance to see other birds and critters up close. But, sometimes up close observation might be a little to close for some.
When Dukee found out that squirrels were now visiting the bird feeder, he had to get involved.
One afternoon, Dukee patiently watched as a squirrel made its way to the bird feeder post and climbed up it. The squirrel stopped and looked at Dukee through the window. Dukee made a funny gurgle sound. And what was that squirrel thinking though as this big orange cat stared at it? Was it sure that Dukee couldn't get it? Or, did it know that anything is possible.
The squirrel turned around and climbed all the way to the top. It looked at Dukee again but then proceeded to look for seed. Dukee laid still and watched as the squirrel dug out some seed and nibbled it.
But after a few minutes, Dukee couldn't help himself. He had to charge at the window. The squirrel panicked, jumped off the bird feeder, and ran up the tree.
Auntie R. said, “now look what you did. You chased him away you silly boy.”
Dukee then watched and listened as the squirrel squawked a few times from the tree. He enjoys watching the squirrels even when he's outside on the porch, but his natural instincts usually kick in and has to charge his prey.
So, now that Dukee knows the squirrels visit the bird feeder, he has to periodically check to see if there are any there. Mia still just enjoys watching them for the most part and usually keeps her distance.
That's all for today so Mia and Dukee want to wish you all a wonderful day and weekend.
That's good for Dukee and Mia to watch the squirrels, but not to jump at it and hitting the window. Ha ha ha , even I like watching the squirrels. I have some great photos I took at some parks.
