Dukee was already laying on Mia’s litter box cabinet and waiting for the squirrels. Mia jumped up onto the kitty tower and also looked out the window.
Dukee glanced over at Mia and said, “no squirrels yet but a couple of birds were here.”
Mia’s eyes went up to the tree in the yard when she heard one of the birds interesting chirp. She glanced around the branches until she saw a red-bellied woodpecker. She watched it as it swooped down and onto the bird feeder.
“I find that bird fascinating,” Mia said.
Dukee watched it while it hung from the tray of the feeder and searched for seed.
“I wonder why that bird hangs there and looks for food while all the other birds sit on it and look,” Dukee said.
“I know and I sometimes see it hitting its face on the tree. I wonder why,” Mia said and then watched the woodpecker as it flew back up and onto a tree branch.
“Well, maybe that is the bird that eats bugs off the trees,” Dukee said.
Mia looked at Dukee, “oh, I did not think of that. So maybe their bodies are built differently.”
Dukee and Mia were quiet for a couple of minutes until a thought came to Dukee’s mind.
“Isn’t it interesting how all of us are made different but also the same?” Dukee said.
Mia looked at Dukee and asked, “what do you mean?”
“Well, you and I walk on four legs while our mom's only walk on two,” Dukee said.
Mia giggled and then said, “that would look funny if my mom walked like me.”
“See, that is what I mean. Even the birds and squirrels are different but yet we all breathe, eat, and care for one another,” Dukee explained.
Mia looked at Dukee again and said, “ you know, you are fairly smart for as goofy as you look.”
Dukee looked at Mia and then they both started giggling.
Our world is full of different critters and different people. We all share the same space with the hope of survival. Ever wonder what the future holds?
Until next week, Mia and Dukee hope that you share your days with a critter or two.
