I just thought of something today that made me feel grateful. I am happy that I have the ability to look up. Could you imagine all the things that we would miss if we couldn’t look up. Well, in this story with Dukee and Mia today, they like to look up too.

As Dukee sat on the seat out on the back porch, he saw something way up in the sky. What is that, he thought. As he watched it, it flew down lower so he could see it.
“Oh, it’s just a vulture… Oh wait, a vulture? I’m outside but I’m not dead. I better move away from the screen so it doesn’t see me,” Dukee said and hopped down.
Dukee walked over to the sliding glass door and looked in, “mom, I want to come in please… Mom, I don’t want to be this birds lunch.”
Dukee meowed a couple of loud meows and waited. He glanced back at the screen and didn’t see the bird but he didn’t want to take any chances. Dukee meowed again and his mom came to the door. When she slid the door open, Dukee rushed inside. His mom wondered what the rush was so she peeked her heard outside. I don’t hear anything, she thought and then closed the door.
When Dukee’s mom went back to her bedroom, Dukee walked up to the front of the house. There, Mia was looking out the window near the kitty tower. Dukee jumped up onto the side table and saw Mia standing still.
“I just went through a scary situation,” Dukee said.
Not moving but staring up into the sky, Mia said, “oh yeah, what happened?”
Dukee noticed that Mia hadn’t moved yet, “what are you doing?”
“There’s a vulture out there,” Mia said.
“It is? It didn’t leave then. Back away from the window,” Dukee said.
“No, it might see me if I move,” Mia said.
“You’re inside the house, it can’t get you in here,” Dukee snickered.
“That’s true,” Mia giggled and then slowly backed up and moved away from the window.
After Mia walked around to the back part of the cube on the kitty tower and laid down inside of it, she asked Dukee what his scary situation was.
“Oh yeah. Well, I was out on the back porch and I looked up at the sky. That’s when I saw that vulture flying around. I thought wow, I hadn’t seen one of those in awhile. Then it dawned on me that I was outside,” Dukee explained.
“Well, you weren’t outside in the yard though. You still had a roof over your head,” Mia said.
“That’s true,” Dukee said.
Dukee thought for a minute, “but if it really wanted to eat me, it could rip open that screen.”
Mia giggled, “didn’t I hear on TV that vulture’s prefer to eat dead or injured animals because they don’t like to work hard for their food?”
“Oh, yes I guess you’re right. Could you imagine though being a bug or a lizard and not knowing when a bird is going to fly down and eat you?” Dukee said.
“Shh, this story is supposed to be meant for children. We shouldn’t be talking about birds attacking things,” Mia said.
Dukee thought for a moment, “well, they need to know that birds eat too. It’s not like what I was imagining out on the screen porch before, but now I think it was silly of me.”
Mia shook her head and sighed, “you’re right though, all living creatures need to eat. They don’t always get there food handed to them like we do.”
“That is true. We have it made here with our mom’s,” Dukee said.
“Yep,” Mia said as she repositioned herself.
Dukee and Mia gazed out the window and glanced around the sky. No sign of the vulture now. It must not have found anything to eat in our neighborhood this time.
Until next week, Mia and Dukee want you to observe the sky and be thankful for seeing it.
Ha ha ha, I love this one ! I like how it's educational as well.
