“How come Auntie doesn’t leave home for days like my mom did?” Mia looked at Dukee and asked.
“Um, I don’t know. She works more now so that could be why. Besides, your mom wasn’t gone that long,” Dukee said.
“It seemed long to me,” Mia said.
“Well, I know my mom checked in on you quite a bit when you were in your bedroom,” Dukee said and licked his right paw.
“Yes, that’s true. She even left some special treats in there for me,” Mia said and looked out the window.
Dukee laid down and they both watched two butterflies flutter around the flower bed. One was yellow and black while the other one was a bright orange.
“There sure has been quite a few butterflies around the yard lately,” Dukee said.
“Yes, I noticed that too,” Mia quickly sat up and itched her left ear.
“Hey, did you see that lizard that got into the house? I caught it once but it got away,” Dukee looked at Mia.
“There’s a lizard in the house?” Mia asked.
“Well, I don’t know if it still is but it was. It went into that closet in the hallway,” Dukee said.
“Oh, maybe that’s why Mom had the window open a little the other day,” Mia laid back down.
“Yeah that does explain why I haven’t seen it again,” Dukee said while he looked up at the butterfly.
“Hey, how high do you think a butterfly can fly?” Dukee said while he followed it down to the flower.
“I don’t know. I have seen them fly up past the window though,” Mia said.
“I bet they can fly as high as that cloud over there,” Dukee said.
“I don’t know about that. That’s pretty high,” Mia got up and hopped down off the bench.
“Where are you going?” Dukee looked back at Mia.
“I’m going to get something to eat, is that okay?” Mia said.
“Oh, okay. That sounds like a good idea,” Dukee got up, hopped down off the bench and walked through the kitchen.
Did you know that a Monarch butterfly can fly to heights of 4,000 feet? Not quite as high as a cloud but that is pretty high. Dukee and Mia want to thank you for reading their story and they also hope that you have a great week.
